    5 month old anal glands

I have noticed over the past week Wyatt anal glands smell from time to time. Anyone have any suggestions? Diet?

I feed him 2 cups of watered dried puppy food and a scope of can food 3 times a day. we use cheese as treats and training.

I've heard adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin (just the regular no spices added one, side note to that my friend was giving her dogs pumpkin pie canned pumpkin and couldn't understand why they had such upset tummies) will firm things up. I've had problems with certain foods being the culprit and once I changed it Kain was fine.

Anal gland smell is by far the worst.

He might not be tolerating the cheese well enough...if you can notice smell but don't see scooting, it could be a bit of ooze, not fullness. I'd see if stopping the cheese for a while makes a difference.

Intolerance can cause irritation and that can cause seepage. (Baffle's intolerance was the organ meat flavoring in chewable tablets...that took a bit of sleuthing to figure out. He seeped something horrible...puddles underneath him...until I stopped his chewable supplements. We even had to avoid chewable Rimadyl.)

    Good luck....hope that'll fix Wyatt.

I am wondering if my soon to be 5 month old is having a similar problem. I switched him from Large Breed Science Diet Puppy to Fromm Gold Large Breed Puppy slowly last week and now he is fully on Fromm (3 cups per day) . I have noticed though... that he smells like a catfish! Is this anal glands? My previous lab never lab that problem but I'm wondering if that is the case? Has anyone else had problems w/ Fromm and anal glands?

Can you tell if its coming from his rear end? I ask this because Sam had horrible, disgusting, funky fish breath when he was teething. Your puppy is of the teething age, so it could be coming from his mouth.

Hmmm....I'll have to investigate which end the funk is coming from! He is definitely teething.... thanks for the suggestion.
