I wouldnt do surgery unless dog couldnt put weight on leg. if he can walk, i would try supplements, rehab, therapy, etc...1st...surgery last resort.
Im pretty sure they use a scope in all joint surgeries...thats how they see inside the joints. Im just saying I wish in my case I didnt rush to surgery and tried some other things first. the reason I rushed was cause chili was still puppy so figured could heal/fix/recover before got too bad. didnt think of consequences if surgery didnt work and what multiple surgeries means for dogs...its not good imo.

Thank you, I will definitely give that some good thought. I will have time to weigh my options since I can't get the surgery until after our vacation. I'll bring the results back to here and see what others think. I know of course it's my decision but I really appreciate all the input. This isn't as clean cut as a CCL or hips.
Oh, and sorry to hear Chili is limping again.

when I brought chili in to see surgery team a few weeks ago for a 2nd surgery...both local surgeon and my family friend surgeon recommended against. ofc everycase different...i just know how much I love my chili and if surgery wont fix for ever, then its good to know other methods. chili can still play and go on walks so until he cant do that anymore, surgery out of question.

Update...sort of.
Took Asher to the consultation yesterday. Vet said he didn't see ED in the x-rays from my vet. He examined Asher and did note Asher limped notably after the exam. While he didn't see ED in the x-ray, he said he would not rule it out. He also said it could be a tear or a strain? He was unable to do a CT scan yesterday so I scheduled it for this morning at 0830. He also wanted to do another x-ray, different view. Took the boy back this morning. I stayed. They came out and said he was waking up and doing well and that Dr. Daye wanted a radiologist to read the x-ray and scan for consult and would call me Monday. UGHHHHHH! Now I have to spend all weekend wondering and then cling to my phone on Monday while at work! During the consult yesterday, he did say if it was ED, it would be a very mild case based on what he see's and how Asher's limp is intermittent. SO, I am cautiously optimistic for good news! I'm surprised though that an ortho surgeon needs a radiologist consult. I guess that's probably normal though.
So, I guess I have to wait until Monday!

I hope this set of xrays and scans on Asher show a good result. It would be nice if you could avoid surgery but I know you'll do what needs to be done. Sorry you have to wait for results- so aggravating.
:-( He just called. Bi-lateral fragmented medial coronoid. He said the left definitely needs arthroscopic surgery and the right is showing signs of fragments and he said while he wouldn't tell me to do it now, if it were his dog, he would because "time is of the essence" with this type of ED. He also said if I do it at the same time it will only add 1200 to the 2800 for the left. My poor baby. I had my hopes up just a bit.
Wow how did I miss this all. I am so sorry your baby is going through this. I was so hoping for better news. I know you are doing your best to take care of him. Sending mojo and a hug.
