the surgery is in the joint where the surgeon attempts to remove all fragments and if needed sculpt the bone to be smooth as to not create any more bone chips.
if you do surgery, pray its done right the 1st time because additional surgeries arent very successful.

I found a site last night that had videos of each of the surgeries. It was amazing how they tore all those fragments away. I will make certain the ortho I choose has performed many of these. I'm looking at Metropolitan in Akron. I'll get the phone call today and have more information. Poor bubba Asher. I'll do everything in my power to ensure we get him as pain free as possible so he can run and play for a very long time. So far, the limp has not stopped him from doing major zoomies in the back yard. Especially in the snow. He loves it. And after, the limp is not worse.
Again, thanks everyone for the advice and kind thoughts. I'll hopefully have an update later today.
I would make surgery last resort. maybe some supplements or time off or even physical therapy should be done 1st.
Radiologist came back with ED. I have an appointment at Metropolitan in Akron 3/1. CT scan and consult. Now the real waiting game is on! C'mon 3/1!
Edited to add: When I made the appointment, I was told to be sure he didn't eat 12 hours before and that he may need to stay overnight so bring any meds he has to take. When I asked why he would have to stay overnight, she replied with "If he has surgery". I guess arthroscopic surgery can be done on a whim like that. I can just imagine myself there and presented with that option. What direction to go? I'm sure the vet with educate me and I will educate myself before going. We have our trip to OBX on 3/29 so I think with that fact, I will opt not to have surgery until we get back. I can't imagine he would be good to go on vacation that soon after surgery and leaving him behind is not an option. Wow, I'm still shocked this is my situation. :-(

ah man, i'm sorry hopefully it's not too bad and can be managed with just meds and rehab/elbow appropriate exercises.

when chili had surgery, the surgeon went off the ct scans and scope. in chili case they scoped both elbows but only one elbow was bad and that where most of the work was done. for my chili surgery lasted a good 3.5 years but now his elbow is bad again...not do surgery again.

most surgeons wont know how bad it is til they get in there with scope.
Question.... I would assume if the CT scan confirmed the need for surgery, he would know at that time which type of surgery is needed or will the scope be necessary to confirm the extent of damage? I think I would opt for a scope after vacation in case he finds that he just needs to clean it and could just do it then? The three types surgery are all different and only one is done with scope.
