    Smile Danny's ALT finally decreased

I've had the little man on Denamarin/LiverAid (homeopathic) for quite some time, trying to get his ALT to respond. (had been increasing steadily for four years, the last two over the range)

I refused to consider a biopsy since he had no symptoms of anything being wrong...and the ultrasound showed nothing.

I had him in for a lump check two days ago and decided to also do his blood check on that visit. His ALT was 362 in December and is now 329. Not a big difference but it's a change in the right direction.

I mentioned to the vet that I'd started him on turmeric when I read that glucosamine/chondroitin aren't advised for dogs with liver (or kidney) issues. Since we didn't know what was going on with his liver, I wanted to err on the side of caution. Turmeric is known as an anti-inflammatory but also, come to find out, it supports good liver health. Bonus. (and it's bacon flavored....he gives it 4 paws up)

The vet agrees that the turmeric might have been what finally got his ALT to respond...I figured that was definitely worth sharing here.

He'll get checked again at his annual visit (July). Fingers crossed that the turmeric will continue to help with this.

Or maybe it was all the good mojo he got from the Lab Board.

Glad things are going in the right direction! interesting that the gluc/ch could have been part of the problem

My friend's newf has high ALT (Very very hgih). she home cooked and it's taken about three months or so, but they are down to 465 (started at 1010!) - they are still working hard to keep bringing it down.

He had been on the gl/ch for maybe as much as a year....definitely not a problem all along....possibly not even part of the problem. Our vet did say, though, that problematic things can be cumulative....one or two of the substances might not do anything but more would trigger the issue. I changed toothpastes (no sorbitol now) and changed flea/tick stuff (wanted to just use yeast/garlic but found a flea and switched from topical to oral), eliminated MSM...perhaps those things helped, too. I'll never know....but I'm keeping him doing what he's doing now.

That's great about your friend's dog. Our vet did say that the ALT could even be affected by food.... Hope his/her levels continue to fall!

Good to hear his Alt is heading in the right direction, every little bit counts. With makes so many changes, it is hard to tell exactly what helped, but as long as there is improvement, that's good.

Sending more lab board MOJO that his report keeps doing good!!

I'm so glad to hear Danny's ALT level went down! That is exciting news! My Molly is having trouble with her liver also, to the point now where I'm not sure she is going to be o.k. much longer. I didn't know about glucosamine/chondroitin being a problem for dogs with liver problems......I've been giving Molly Cosequin DS for a few years now! Maybe I'd better stop.....She has arthritis, though, so I hope that wouldn't get worse if I stop......she is also on Galliprant for the arthritis pain, but vet knows this, & I don't think she is seeing that as a cause for Molly's liver trouble.....

Turmeric is amazing. I am so happy to see that Danny's Alt is lowering/reducing, he is a lucky boy that you are his mom. :-)
