I agree....if the UTI has been cleared up and he's still dribbling...that something is not right. I would also get him into your Vet..

I haven't ever had a dog with crystals in their urine (*knock wood*)...
...But from a human medical perspective, the crystals harbor the bacteria, so as they break down they release more bacteria, so the infection is still present. The dog, (or human) needs to be on long term antibiotic therapy until the crystals/stones are completely dissolved, and the underlying issue is resolved, so more crystals do not form. The struvite crystals are very irritating to the bladder walls so it is uncomfortable to have a full bladder.

    Good luck.

Both Opal and Ursa have histories of struvite crystals and neither have ectopic ureters. As per their vet, we add cran-caps - 2X daily to their meals and also vit C - 1X daily. We also give each 1.5 cc of CS 2X daily (we don't do antibiotics because they compromise the immune system). Urine samples from past November; Opal was struvite crystal negative, but Ursa still had a few. Neither had UTIs. It's also important to up the daily water intake by wetting the meals.

    Good luck with Dozer.

Thank you so much for responding... of course I have questions.... I hope you don’t mind

What was their initial symptoms and how old were they when they had them?? Did they dribble urine?? Did you ever put them on a prescription diet to resolve the crystals? Did they ever have bladder stones?? How long did it take to clear their urine of the crystals??
We are already giving Dozer Vit C twice a day, Cranberry juice mixed with water on his kibble along with some wet food to increase his fluid intake.

    Hi again,

Opal has had crystals off and on for the past 6ish years and has been clean for the past yearish, she's almost 13 yo. Opal never has symptoms. Ursa started with crystals last year when we thought she had an UTI. Ursa tends to pee a bit more like a UTI, but with no UTI. Neither dribble, nor have had bladder stones. Along that line, ACV helps to break up stones in humans and dogs, Google it.

Our girls are RAW/homemade fed, so no prescription diet. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to clear up and then we re-do the urine test.

Cran-juice is loaded with sugar and crystals thrive on sugar, so that's why we give them each 1/2 a natural (no soy, wheat, grains) cran-cap in the a.m and the other 1/2 in the p.m..

Another thought, we also feed our girls cucumber with the rind left on, since it helps to moisten the urinary tract...TCM talk. And we give them Arinca Montana daily for pain and inflammation.

Update - I had Dozer back to the Vet to go over my concerns. I brought another urine sample to have tested. The Vet took X-rays to check for bladder stones to see if that could explain his frequent urination , none seen. Dozer’s Urinalysis showed no crystals, but once again showed a large amount of white blood cells so he has been put on Antibiotics once again. Dozer is going to have blood work done when he finishes his antibiotics (appointment is booked) and I will get his urine rechecked at the same time. The next step would be a referral for a CT Scan to check for Ectopic Ureters. He is getting Vitamin C 500mg twice daily, Cranberry capsule once daily along with his antibiotics.
I keep a log of his potty habits and his dribbling - I brought a copy to the Vet and he was really surprised at how many times a day Dozer goes out to pee (16 times on the day before the appointment ). I guess seeing it in black and white registered more than me just verbally telling him. Even when his UTI was clear Dozer went out 12 times a day to pee.

Is there anything else we should be doing??

I hope Dozer is better soon. Are the antibiotics 5 day or 10 day?? I'd be anxious waiting for him to finish to get the blood test. I'm a worrier though. Sending many good thoughts!!

    Thanks.
The antibiotics are for 14 days ( he is on day three) .....we are waiting until he finishes his antibiotics in case we go ahead with the CT Scan, the blood work has to be done as close to the Scan as possible.
