    Lucy limping

So I came home from work todayto find Lucy limping on her front right leg. I checked the paw & didn’t find anything that might be irritating to her. I touched her leg but she didn’t whimper or pull her leg back. In the past whenever she was limping I would bring her to the-vet & rimadyl would clear it up. How long do you all wait before going to the vet in these cases? I feel so bad for her- she is putting a little weight on it & following me around the house. I am thinking that I should give her a day or so to rest it before calling the vet- what do you think?

I would probably wait a day & see how she does. How old is she? Could be arthritis?

She will 8 years old next month. Its a very pronounced limp, so I am thinking she injured it somehow. My neighbor usually comes by mid-day with her lab and lets them play in the yard for a while so she might have done it then or she could have jumped off the couch & hurt herself then. I have reached out to my neighbor but haven't heard back. Either way, she is still limping this morning. Lucy stayed in her dog bed in the first floor last night, she usually comes upstairs & sleeps in our room; I guess she didn't want to use the stairs. I will probably take her in today or tomorrow.

I’d definitely take her to the vet if she isn’t limping any less today. Hoping it’s something minor.

Must be painful if she stayed downstairs. I hope it will resolve with rest and TLC.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Hoping it is just maybe a pulled muscle and rest will let it heal. And I would definitely try to get information from your neighbor to see if they saw anything that may have caused the limp ( I am not blaming them ! ).

If the dog has limped before, and if you have some meds left, I would give the dog some meds now and let them rest a few days to see if it clears up. If you don't have any meds, you may want to ask the vet for a little more than they normally give you so you have a few on hand. Just in case. When the dogs get older, and they have some problems now and then, it doesn't always have to be a vet visit....as long as you are sure it's nothing new or different. But that's how I manage things in my house....

Sending good thoughts that it's not too serious.

Thanks for all your responses! I have a vet appointment tomorrow morning but I am not sure I will keep it since Lucy seems to be somewhat better. She climbed the stairs yesterday and this morning the limp seems less pronounced. I will let her rest it again today & see how she is in the morning.
