You can keep this stuff on hand, and when you think something is brewing, you can treat yourself.
Thank you JenC, on the list of things to ask the breeder. Realized, through the experience of our Kuvacz, Ice, about how important ear care and what could start "brewing" there, if unchecked.

My husband saw this at our local TSC.

That is how my dogs behave..all I have to say is 'EARS' and they crouch down to get their ears cleaned. They don't like it, but oh well. LOL. Afterwards, they go nuts shaking their heads and rubbing it on the floor. Quite a performance.

We battled ear problems for most of Lola's first year. Our vet prescribed Virbac epi-otic ear cleaner (available on Amazon). The vet recommended that we clean Lola's ears twice a week, and always after swimming or a bath. The results have been amazing...no more ear problems.

I also use Epiotic but the link Sue posted looks interesting, since we've been trying to avoid chemicals as much as possible.

We've been using OTIFREE ( Otifree (Canada) for Animal Use - Drugs.com ) for years, more or less on regular basis (once a week) on cosmetic cotton pads and it seems to be doing the job just fine. Of course there's a deal: each ear - one treat which is not that bad. I'm lucky that labs are so easy to bribe

I wish I knew what the name of the ear cleaner is she sold me. We started going to this vet last year after being with our other vet for 20 years. DH got ticked off at our old vet after they insisted Sam needed a chest X-ray when he had kennel cough. After that we decided to try out this new vet. I like her but it's strange how she sells her products. She puts a private label on the ear cleaners, shampoos, etc. It has her practice name on it and just says Ear Cleaner. I saw bottles of shampoo lined up with the same type of label and Oatmeal Shampoo, Medicated Shampoo, etc. on the label. Our old vet always sold name brand products. I guess this way you have to go back to her for a refill. I don't think I like that very much.

She puts her own label overtop of a name brand product? Strikes me there might be a legal problem with that? Am I understanding this correctly?

There's a whole bunch of ear cleaning recipes at the link and a rundown on the commercial ones too. Note the ones said to be ototoxic.

It's strange but the bottle looks like the only label is her label. Almost like it was made for her. I think she put a prescription label over the ear cleaner but she gave me some shampoo samples. I'll get a picture tonight.
