You haven't been here in a while. Welcome back, but I am sorry it's this question that brings you back. No help on this question from me, except good thoughts for you and Yogi.
Yogi had a 1cm anal-gland tumor removed this past Thu. Nothing has spread to his stomach, intestines, heart, or anywhere else, but it is malignant and, in the oncologist's words, "The tumor was removed completely, but the margins are much too close for comfort, and recurrence is likely." I'm wondering if anyone has gone through radiation/chemo and can share what I can expect. A bit overwhelmed by the decisions I have to make, though I do have until his surgery heals (about 10 days). I have insurance so cost isn't an issue. Yogi is 8.

I too have no experience with this, but am sending good thoughts Yogi’s way
Thanks for the warm welcome back and for the thoughts, all
Hi, who could forget Yogi? Those eyes!
I'm sorry you're going through this with Yogi. There was a member a year or so ago whose dog had anal gland cancer but she was much older so the decisions surrounding care were different than you're facing. There have been a few people whose dogs have gone through chemo, I don't remember about radiation, but for different cancers. Janedoe had 2 dogs get chemo in the past 6-8 months and my impression was that it went pretty well but I'd have to look for the threads again to say for sure. I guess your oncologist is probably your best source for advice at this point. I hope he/she can give you the guidance you need and things turn out well for Yogi and you.
Oh dear...I'm so sorry to read this....I have not heard of anal gland cancer. I'm familiar with dogs getting impacted anal glands and sometimes they even get them removed.
I do think if this were my dog, at only 8 years old, I would definitely consider some sort of treatment (radiation/chemo). I've heard that these treatments are not as hard as you may think, and many dogs do well.
Of course, this is something you would have to sit down and discuss at length with your trusted Vet.
I want to send good thoughts and prayers for your young sweet boy...
Oh No! So very sorry. Have not had to deal with this type of cancer. Potion had bladder cancer at 12 years old and there were no options, completely blocked her urethra. Bandit had a splenic tumor which had most likely already metastasized due to changes in his spine.
Sending you lab board mojo and many prayers being said. Please keep us updated.
