    Throwing up drool?

My 9 month old black lab threw up 2 puddles of what appeared to be only drool this morning. Does anyone have experience with that? It was clear, no particles or food, definitely not bile (I’ve seen it before) and she had some even hanging down from her mouth after. A little background: there was a dead mouse floating in the water bowl that greeted us this morning. We *think* she didn’t drink out of it, as my boyfriend picked it up first thing this morning. We have a second dog that could have had a drink out of it, because he has free run of the house during the night, where our lab does not. She wasn’t interested in eating her food this morning, not super abnormal, but she hasn’t eaten much over the last few days. She didn’t want to drink any water after I washed out the bowl and refilled it. She’s usually a pretty big drinker. Thoughts? Thank you!

I think the mouse would have needed to be floating for a LONG time to contaminate the water. I'd leave it alone and see what happens in the next day. I gave out a special treat the other night and 2 of the 5 vomited afterwards. I think they were a little fatty. My thoughts are that vomit and drool once isn't any big deal. If they do it every day or several times in an hour, THEN there might be something wrong. Right now I'd just keep an eye out. And maybe set some mousy bait stations up where the dogs can't get to them.

If she hasn't eaten much over the past few days (but no vomiting, right?), I'd suspect that something has her nauseated (the drooling). Have you opened a new bag of food in the past few days? New treats? New anything that she's coming into contact with (something on the ground being licked off her paws)?

I wouldn't suspect the mouse UNLESS it had been poisoned...perhaps run this scenario past your vet just in case a minute bit of toxin was in the water (from paws/fur of mouse).

We purchased a new bag of food, but it’s the same food she has been eating. She has been rushed to eat a little more lately, due to having to go places, etc. she is an anxious dog and likes us to sit with her while she eats, but that hasn’t been an option the last 2 days. She’s eating chicken and peanut butter just fine, so I guess something could be wrong with the food we just bought? Maybe it’s expired? She ate it a few times without issue, though.

I'm assuming that the food in the new bag looks/smells OK to you. If not....return it and get a new bag (diff batch).

If so, call the food manufacturer and see if they've had any complaints with the batch you have (info on the bag). Or just buy another bag of the food (different batch) and see if that makes a difference. If it does, return the first bag for refund. And let the manufacturer know.

There may not be anything seriously wrong with the food but a slight recipe difference (deliberate or inadvertent) could make all the difference to your dog.

I have an anxious dog and, while she may temporarily turn up her nose at a single meal (if something out of routine happens at mealtime), she wouldn't be off her feed for a few days. Drooling can be anxiety...but if anxiety is involved, I really think it's anxiety over the food. All things considered.

Every now and then a spider would cross our floor and Jet would pounce and eat it. Every time she vomitted up a bit of clear, sometimes foamy, liquid after. I don't worry about the odd upchuck either. Persistent, recurring upchuck I do.

The food looks and smells okay. She is a crated dog and I put her bowl of food in her crate with her today (which we never do) when I left for work, and I was able to go home at lunch. She ate the whole bowl of food, and was excited to see me, running around when I let her out of the crate. She seemed to be back to normal. I will keep an eye on it and touch base with Eukanuba, but I think I might have overreacted this morning. I’m a first time dog mom

    thank you everyone!

Good luck. Maybe the "being rushed" and whatever activity's associated with it has her super anxious.

Glad she is doing OK now. With drooling my first thought was maybe something caught between teeth/in the mouth.

Let us know how she is doing.
