I was reading over his release papers a little closer and it described the surgery...
After routine general anesthesia arthroscopy was performed on Asher's elbows. There were fragmented medial coronoid processes in both elbows. These were removed arthroscopically. During arthroscopy bilateral medial subtotal coronoidectomies were performed and hopefully improve the long-term outcome regarding osteoarthritis.
Just breaks my heart seeing him in his crate but I know it's best. I want to bring him out but I know that's not best right now. I could tell he was feeling much better this morning because the zoomies were coming on during his first potty break this morning. Pouring rain and all. I hurried him back in and feed them and gave Asher his meds. Asher is resting peacefully again. After two weeks, we begin water therapy so I am really looking forward to that. I will have two swimming boys! Samson swims on Fridays and hopefully I'll get Asher in at my vet for treadmill on Thursdays!
Just an update.......on week mark! Asher is coming along just fine. I noticed some swelling Weds morning on his left leg which startled me so I took pictures and sent off for the surgeon to review. No redness or issues with the incision site so the surgeon said the swelling was normal and just to keep massaging and to ice down if Asher lets me. Well, he won't. At all. Even with some peanut butter. He resists the ROM exercises too. He loves the massaging so I'll take that. The swelling is back down so I'm pleased. Limping a little on his left once he gets up but that should clear. He's been staying int he crate for the majority of the time. I'll bring him out to lay at my feet (on the big memory foam bed) for a while. He starts to want to move around and then I have to put him in the crate. He's doing well. I'm pleased with how he's doing.
We go Thursday next week to get the sutures out and then we start water therapy! Yay. He's going to do the water treadmill for six weeks. The release papers say he needs to stay crated for 8 weeks with leashed potty breaks only. Can't imagine how he is going to be at 3 and 4 weeks because he's ready to run right now.

I'm so glad to hear he's coming along nicely!

Oh gosh, so hard to keep these guys down! I hope the next several weeks fly by, for yours AND Asher's sanity!

That is so true. As soon as we walk out on the deck his ears go back and I know he's ready to catapult off that deck. I have him sit, tell him he's such a good boy, and try to get him to relax. Then I attempt to slowly get him down the two stairs and then contain him so he can focus on potty break.. As much as I hate the meds, they sure do help keep him under control since he is on zero activity. I can't wait to get through this so he can run, run, and run. And toss in the middle an ear infection for Samson. Had to take him in last Monday. He started shaking his head during vacation. ACV helped clear a little for the last 3 days of vacation but he needed drops. I think we are in the clear there now.
I was able to find a good bed for his crate that he does not eat. He would rip apart those memory foam beds. I tried 3 and he tore all 3 apart (nice way to toss out 185 bucks). I got a Kong bed. He has zero interest (not to jinx myself) in ripping it to pieces. I think he could literally smell the foam in the other beds and was happy to tear them apart. Thankfully he doesn't bother this one so he has something comfy to lay on. So anyone looking for a puppy quality bed -- try the Kong.
Sounds like recovery is going slow for a lab and owner watching the poor baby it must be torcher. So I am really glad the meds are working. As for beds I gave up till Molly was around 2.5 she shredded everything. Now the beds are safe. As for Samson glad his ear infection cleared up Cassie has one going on and I am trying to wait till Monday to go to the vet. I have been using ACV as well.
Good luck for the first water therapy. I also wanted mention that it looks like you hade a nice view from the deck in your photo

Hey Jollymolly - hope Cassie's ear cleared up. Samson seems to be doing well. I avoided him swim therapy last week but headed there tomorrow. Hopefully we don't have a set back. I just got back from shopping and alcohol was top on my list, I forgot it. Ugh.
So Asher had his two week check today! They gave me a high-five on how well he is doing!! Sutures are out. They said he had great range of motion, no swelling. 6 more weeks of crate and leashed only potty breaks. No steps. This air mattress was killing me so I had to break down and purchase a 12" queen memory foam to lay on my living room floor. Got it on Tuesday this week and wow, what a difference! I can take 6 more weeks on that.
I have noticed (which tickles me) -- he walks with his head up now!!!! Before, he seemed to always walk with his head down. Also, his left leg doesn't go out as far when he walks. It was just an odd gate ( I just knew something was wrong from his gate). His front left leg would stretch way out and his head really low would follow. But now? Head up and small steps. I have had to keep him on the trazodone. I stopped one day and boy, that was a mistake. He's just too young to be confined with no permitted activity. So, I stick to the trazodone. 150mg in the morning seems to keep the edge off. I hate giving it to him but a successful recovery is a must.
I'm pleased we had a great visit today. Next visit 6/7 for final follow-up and x-rays!

Great update on Asher. I bet he walked with his head down because his elbows hurt when he would step. Sp glad that he is more like his healthy self. Six weeks will be gone in no time and he and you can both enjoy the summer!!
