      Asher's ED Surgery

Picked him up at 1000 today. He has been sleeping peacefully in the crate. I plan to keep him there as much as possible over the next few days. Surgeon said he cleaned out fragments (lesions) out of each elbow. The left (symptom leg) was worse but not horrible. Surgeon said he also took off some bone to help with movement? I'll ask again at our 2 week follow up. Surgeon said he did great throughout the entire process. Lab techs said he was just a "sweetheart". My pet sitter now thinks he is a demon puppy. I may not allow her to come back - I'm pretty disappointed in her handling of Asher not listening and refusing to come in. We shall see.

Came home with trazadone and tramadol. Fingers crossed for a non eventful recovery. Back on the air mattress for 6 weeks. Going to start water therapy after the 2 week follow up once sutures are removed. Please keep Asher in your thoughts. Poor baby is too young for this.

aww poor dude. but at least surgery is done and you get just get thru the recovery and get that behind you.

I've been disappointing by dog walkers as well. One was having major issues with Penny jumping on her (Penny could be intense - i guess she really liked her!) which was sorta lame cuz - dude you are a dog walker and your boss is a trainer :P Getting a dog in can be awkward the first time but after that i'd sadly keep a long line on them so they can't keep away (assuming using only high valu food didn't work).

regarless, best of luck on his recovery. i guess since it's not a bone cut the recovery isn't super long? i guess he will need to slowly build muscle and toning after having rested?

Thank you! Yes, no bone cutting. This was arthroscopic so our road to recovery should be less stressful than Samson. I've got to keep Samson and Asher separated for about 6 weeks....but other than that, we should be doing well.

Fingers crossed for a non-eventful recovery! I have my neighbors on alert too! They won't let their dog out if they see me and Asher in the back.

All good thoughts headed your way for a smooth and total recovery.

I don't know if they sent you home with ice packs but I found bags of frozen peas to be better for knobby joints.

At least Asher COuld have the surgery. Oban was 6 when he hurt his elbow and the Ortho Vet said surgery was out, Oban was too old, the bones only heal back up properly when they are still young and growing. Poor Asher though, he won't know he needs to restrain himself. Glad the surgery went well.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the kind thoughts. Asher is doing well. Just chilling in the crate. The meds are really keeping him at bay. I told the surgeon I didn't like the idea of the heavy meds but he assured me for the first two weeks, it's the best thing I could do for Asher and his recovery. So, he's pretty drugged up (Tramadol and Trazadone). His med schedule is a little off so I was up at 0300 and 0500 giving him meds. I'm going to try and sync all of them by Monday.

I think Samson is a little confused on what's going on with little brother. I'm sure he misses his energetic playmate! I'm not used to it being this quiet!
