Does a dogs coat change color

Looking at getting a chocolate puppy but his father seems to have different shades. Is he healthy?

It is impossible to give a definitive answer. It would have been good to ask the breeder this if it bothered you. It sounds like you don't yet have the puppy so you can stlil do some buyer due diligence.

I gave some feedback in your other post but it could just be "sun burn". my lab would get reddish furs at the end of a sunny summer. and during shedding season he'd get patchy light spots as the bottom coat came out.

    was this an outside dog?

If you don't yet have the puppy, more important questions are does the dad have all health clearances (specific tests) to ensure they don't pass on health issues to their puppies. hips, elbows, eyes, heart, eic and cmn are bare minimum for labraodrs. and mom should have them to. If they don't then i"d highly recommend passing on the litter and finding a reputable breeder

If you do have the puppy already, just love them and talk to your vet.

Adult coats can vary in shade. A couple of my chocolates have lighter hair on their heads but their bodies are pretty uniform. They can look different if they are about to blow coat or if they are sun burned.
