Oh, and just because you didn't find any carriers on the OFA database, I guarantee you there are, because I have seen them. However, many breeders will do the testing and not submit the results to the database, especially if they have a lot of dogs, or are trying to save a little money, because it costs money, in addition to the testing expense, to load the results on the database. Take that for what you will.

Yes I understand all of that

Talked with the breeder, he spot tests, so not all his dogs are tested, but the majority of them are.. (which is what a breeder friend of mine told me he probably does where he’s been breeding for 30+ years and knows his lines)
He said he has to go through paperwork (he’s been buried in puppies so is busy and is an older gentleman) and see exactly which ones are tested, if our pups parents aren’t, then he said he will happily test the pup for us.
He said any outside dogs he brings in are tested, so I feel very confident that we are in the clear.

Oh, and our older dog from him is clear

OP, glad you feel confident in your breeder. Good luck with your puppy.

For others who might come across this thread, it is nice if breeders have been breeding for decades, but you'll also want to see if breeders you are vetting are keeping up with the latest in genetic issues and health testing with the breed. Breeders today have more screening tools than ever to inform their breeding decisions. Passing hips, elbows, and a yearly ACVO eye exam are really the bare bones of screening -- and frankly, I'd be looking for more. There are still issues that are not fully understood in Labradors, so while breeders may know their lines, you'll also want them to be up on the latest discussions about Labrador health. Personally, I think every breeder should be doing heart clearances -- not just auscultations but echocardiograms. While we don't fully understand the mode of inheritance for TVD, the most common heart problem in Labs, breeding from two clear parents is the best we can do at this time. EIC, while certainly an issue, usually doesn't result in death (although some dogs have died after episodes).

People looking to buy purebred Labrador puppies should familiarize themselves with the recommended tests for Labradors: Canine Health Information Center: CHIC Information

I was wondering if anyone has felt with EIC before... I have a three year old female and my vet and I are debating if it’s something she has or if the few episodes last summer were from the heat and due to not really being used to running around as much as she should.

Also, if anyone has good recommendations for a lab for genetic testing? GenSol Lab, and Vet DNA Center are two affordable ones I was looking at... any insight? EIC is the only test I’m looking at doing right now.

I'm sorry I must have misunderstood your first post, and that you were looking for advice from anyone that has dealt with EIC and insight. You have repeatedly said that you know all that has been said to you, so I wonder what your question was?

Wow 3 business days and you have EIC DNA results back on the dog you posted about on the 25th? I don't think even DDC is that fast.

I also hope that your breeder doesn't get inspected by AKC in the near future, as those records should be readily available and accessible at any time for inspection. I could tell you the status of my breeding dogs off the top of my head, but I also have their breeding clearance test results, microchip numbers, AKC records etc... in folders for each dog located in a fireproof safe. I also have complete computer files on each dog for me, since computer records are not enough for AKC.

Daos, thank you for posting the CHIC link, very helpful for people looking for a puppy, although I also feel a cardiac echo is necessary for both parents, they aren't yet required, but they are working on it.

I was saying I understood what you guys were saying that I should have asked for test results ect. before putting a deposit on a pup. Yes I should have, and I know that. We made a mistake, but worked through it without any harm done.
And everyone was saying how EIC works, I understand that it’s genetic and how that works..8 was wondering if those who dealt with it would share their stories for me to reference my girl with. Snd then for labs people recommend. Sorry for misunderstanding.

No, she’s clear through parentage. I didn’t test her..

He has all of it, we were talking on the phone and he told me he would look into when he had some extra time to pull it all out. He had a lot going on with some puppies just born and people coming to look at their older puppies ect. (A lady showed up while we were on the phone so it wasn’t the best of times)
He did remember a few and when I told him the parents of our older dog he said they were clear, he just didn’t remember off the top of his head which of his chocolates he had tested yet.

I recently went to requiring ALL standard lab DNA tests for EVER pup leaving here w/ any intent at all of breeding. There can be human / tech/ clerical errors plus not all labs are considered equal. Don't go w/ the discount labs...
