Well...after a long spell of no lameness - it returned. we got the CT of both elbows for just under $900 (not bad I think). the diagnosis was fractured coronoid process (several pieces) on the left which was the primary lame leg. Right leg showed signs of the same abnormality but it hadn't broken off yet. He had both elbows fixed this morning via arthroscopy. Surgeon said all went well; removed fragments and cleaned left, reshaped right to avoid future issues. Prognosis is good, only the potential arthritis at age, no other joint concerns .

I read the descriptions of ED, this sounds similar. not sure its exactly the same but it doesn't really matter now i guess. the expensive pup will be home soon and relaxing with the fam. no more limping and lameness! cant wait. the intermittent issue was stressing us out.

thank you for all your support!

Oh shoot, yes, FCP is part of the ED complex. So sorry to hear of this! I'm sure many will suggest other supplements but I love MSM as a base from the time my puppies are eating gruel even. I believe alot of diets (humans' also) are deficient in sulfur which is a building block of soft tissues etc. I swear it brought me out of active SLE (systemic lupus) years ago too. I take it personally and give to all my dogs/ pups to this day.

This is literally identical to what my Asher had. And it is elbow dysplasia. Asher's left was clinical with lots of fragmented pieces and his right had not fragmented yet. He had the same surgery and the surgeon also reshaped the joints.

Best of luck in the recovery!

Our Maddy had bilateral FCP and surgery back in 2004. She's long gone now, but she recovered just fine and even though she took supplements all her life, she had a pretty full and active life. All her obedience titles were after surgery. Your boy should recover well!

I am glad there ave been so many good outcomes. yesterday afternoon was a tough one. Kai was in rough shape. he is moving better already tho and that is encouraging. scary how similar the situation was to Asher's. Kai is on the supplements.

it sure helps to hear from others who have been there before. many thanks for the support and help along the way.

its been a month tomorrow and Kai is starting to walk much better. the first couple weeks i have to admit i was freaking out...lots of limping and labored walking. but now we have finally walked a little farther and the lamness is subsiding in general. He is possessed by balls and fetching - but we will be keeping him off that fora at least another months. he run real fast and wipes out and all that craziness. much more healing is needed before we go that far. hope this is all behind us. costly little situation to fix. but well worth it just the same.

thought I would throw out an update on Kai. A long 3 months later we have started to slowly increase the walk length...by a house or two a day. this is working. a month ago he seemed so much better I took him out for a medium size walk and he was lame long before home . We started to play some fetch, but this I feel need much limitation. he runs fast and wild, skids out in the grass, leaps over obstacles, etc.

I expected a much shorter recovery. three months and we are seeing some hope with less setbacks. we walk about 20 min a day. before all this we went an hour easy. maybe next summer we can get back to a fitness level of walking.
