I’ve found my older spayed bitches have a heavier and wavier/curlier coat than when they were younger and intact. Can’t tell how much is due to age and how much due to spay status as we tend to spay them as they are getting older. I have noticed that Chloe sheds more year round than she did before being spayed, while the two intact yellows are like Chloe when she was younger (and intact) and have more of a seasonal shed. Cookie’s seasonal shed coincided with her hormonal shedding this year (she may have had a mild false pregnancy after her last season) so she literally WAS naked for a few days. Absolutely zero undercoat and skin showing through on her flanks and armpits. That thankfully didn’t last long as her coat started coming back in very quickly and is now (6 weeks later) back to normal.
