this is pic from vets office after we tried wiping clean. vet thought was allergies and gave me prednisone and some entederm cream. boy do his ears stink...kinda nervous but hopes it goes away. the $100 walk in visit including meds does relieve some concern...now just hope it works. I noticed his 1 ear was dirty last week and didnt follow up fast enough as this is chili's 1st ear problem

Did the vet do an ear swab? That is the only way to tell if it is allergy, fungus or bacterial. Very important to know which one so it can be treated successfully. If the ears stink, I doubt if it is allergy! JMHO

Good luck treating it as I know Chili's ear are hurting.

well the prednisome just knocked chili out and he is sleeping next to me on couch...man his ears stink. I kinda thought this allergy diagnoses odd...but vet said he treats 20 dogs a day with same problem this time of year...not in arguing mood, but did strike me as odd.

I guess the entederm cream does alot:
By virtue of its four active ingredients, the ointment provides four basic therapeutic effects: anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antifungal and antibacterial.

nope, no swab or testing...vet just examined and said this is what it is. when I was massaging his ear I felt a cyst like ball at bottom of ear and kinda freaked out cause wasnt there on other ear and off to vet walk in.

got lucky and vet was on lunch hr and saw me right away.

i had a bottle of this: https://www.amazon.com/Innovet-PurOt...og+ear+cleaner on hand from when he was puppy and drove chili crazy...hope the cream vet gave works better.

Allergies seems weird to me, too.

Was Chili near water recently? Out in the rain?

I learned many years ago with infection-prone Hershey that I had to pre-empt damp ear issues every time. Starting with Hersh and for every dog since, if it's at all damp outside...not necessarily full-on rain...or if a pup's near water or tall wet grass...all ears get a drop of ear drying solution the minute we get into the house. I use a chlorhexiderm solution for drying wounds (vet approved use of this product) but there are plenty of ear-specific drying products out there. We haven't had a single ear infection since (including with Hersh).

    Good luck.

I honestly cant think of any water issues...I live in the desert lol. its all a mystery as chili has never had ear problem before. I guess if this cream and pills dont work go back to vet...Im crossing my fingers it works. anyone ever use prednisone pills and entederm cream before for ear issues?

Hah...I didn't realize you lived in the desert. The grass in the background of Chili's big picture sure doesn't give that away.
