Rimadyl For Dogs: Uses, Dosage, Side Effects - Dogtime
Anyone have their dog on rimadyl for over a week see their stools become increasingly watery? Kai have been on it for 12 days post-op and his poop is getting more watery each day. at first it was a formed with mush on top and that became full liquid today. He was supposed to be on it two more day but we called him done in fear the poop issue was going to escalate.
we have had out labs on and off rimadyl before without a poop issue. but nothing else has changed.
thanks!

Has he been on it before and been OK? Exact same "rimadyl"....e.g., always brand and not generic, always tablet/chewable and not chewable/tablet?
If he's been on the exact thing before and been OK, I'd suspect the medication itself now causing him issues. Intolerances develop with age.
If he's been on a different type before and been OK, I'd suspect the carrier ingredients and not the medication itself.
If he's never been on it before...well...coin toss.
We had a choc Lab who couldn't tolerate any kind of meat flavoring in a pill without having a specific gastrointestinal issue that was totally not acceptable (anal gland seepage). Baffle could take the Rimadyl tablets but never any of the brand/generic chewables.
Interesting point! Yes used before but the pills were totally different. Not sure which is generic and which is not. the morning poop was a touch better...I dont think skipping a the last two days of a 14 day dosing will matter that much. I may fish around and see what he got before. First time with no issue was from his regular vet. the potentially problematic one came from the surgeon's office. Neither was the chew-able ones.
I just hope the poop goes back to normal...picking up that mess is well I am sure you know.
Many thanks!
Our vet gave us Carprophin (generic), less money and side effects were minimal.
DOGS ROCK!!!
I think a call to your vet is in order. I've had dogs on both the actual and generic in the past (have generic on hand right now) w/o any issues but diarrhea and lack of appetite, etc. are on the "to watch for" list.

I picked up some probiotic and issues seem to be resolving. it hard to tell the cause, he was on antibiotics shortly before the rymadil so who know.
