    Samson

Did a little googling on the internet and now I'm full blown paranoid.

Over the weekend, noticed Samson staring up at the ceiling and then biting like there was a fly. I looked and nothing. I've see a few very little fruit flies so I thought that was it. He did it the other day too. I was just curious this evening and googled eye problems in dogs. I may or may not see something in his right eye? I can't tell if it's a shadow of he or what. Then I see articles on epilepsy and hallucinations! Oh my.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Does Samson have any kind of digestive issues? I understand that this behavior could also be a result of that.

My Honey had petit mal seizures for a short while (we resolved her internal overheating cause with a food change) and Brutus' went undiagnosed at first and progressed into grand mal. Both dogs had problems with heat. Neither dog ever snapped at the air. Both were yellow, coincidentally.

Hope Samson won't develop anything further, in any case.

I had a dog that did this when I was a kid. I hate to tell you this, but our vet said it was neurological. It never progressed into any more than fly biting.

Yea, it's definitely neurological but something triggers it. If we can find out what, hopefully we can treat it.

Sundance...I read a very good article on digestive issues. I will bring up with my vet on Friday. I scheduled an appointment. You bring up something interesting to me....you mention internal overheating. I think back, samson presented these symptoms first last week after his swim session on Saturday. He did it a few times. Nothing all week. Then yesterday we got home from swim and he did it within 20 minutes of getting home. He has been swimming weekly since November. We have started taking the jacket off for 8 minutes or so. I wonder if hes over exerting himself? He seems to love it. I'll discuss with my vet. Ugh, I sure hope this boy is okay. Hes my world.

Could be. Honey's seizures started in a very frigid December, out in the snow. She ran to the back of our backyard to chase a heron out of our fish pond area and seized coming back. It was about a foot of snow she was running through, so heavy exertion. It happened two more times, outside, with a bit of running in the snow...each time a bit more pronounced and that's when I decided it wasn't just coincidental timing for being tired right before her next meal, etc. We saw the doctor the next day and made an immediate food change. We never saw another seizure till she got much older and had leg issues...they freaked her out and her anxiety (overheating from that) prompted the seizures to start back up.

We'd kept assuming Brutus' seizures were him getting knocked over by Hershey and Honey playing...coincidental situations...until he had a grand mal. In his sleep. In a cool room. His arthritis may have been causing pain/fear/overheating...don't really know.

I should stop googling. He's never had any of this before and he's 6 so it's odd he is just starting. I hope it's not a brain tumor. Sigh. I know...getting ahead of myself.

Thanks for the info on your pups...

Honey was 6 when hers started...I'd noticed a bit of slowing down in recent months, though...she was the one to stop fetching, not me (she was always a fetching fool)...I hadn't thought anything of it at the time but can see where she was acknowledging being warmer than she liked.

Good thoughts for Samson. And avoid Dr Google- he can make you paranoid.
