I stopped googling. Well, I did make a note of of any recent changes with samson. I started them on Nexgard at the end of May. On the days I witnessed the swatting, I gave him his sentimental. Not new for him. I'll discuss the Nexgard with the vet. I'll let the tests provide the answers. Thanks for the well wishes.

What are you calling "his sentimental"?

Anyway, I've seen warnings regarding use of Nexgard with seizure-prone dogs.

    Ah....

    Unfortunately, another potential for seizures.

My vet had mentioned to me some time ago about intolerances, things that can affect liver levels, etc., that perhaps one or two of the things that a dog is sensitive to might not be an issue...but you start piling up those kind of things and the sensitivity triggers symptoms. (I think that's most likely what I experience with my food intolerances triggering anxiety/irritability. I'll go along "fat dumb and happy" for a while and then try one more thing that's suspicious and I'm back to square one, avoiding all of the things for a while.) Maybe Samson's tolerance level was exceeded by the addition of the Nexgard.

I've already decided to stop the nexgard. Asher will no longer get it either. Not that I want any of this for him but if anything, I'm hoping that is the cause.

Samson had a full panel of blood work completed yesterday and it came back perfect. I haven't witnessed anymore of the "fly biting" events since his 2nd one a week ago. Since nothing else has changed (his behavior, eating, energy, etc.), I'm just to monitor him. My fingers are crossed that this doesn't happen again. I am stopping the Nexgard and during his swim sessions, I will leave the jacket on. We have been taking it off at the end so he can swim "naked". Last few sessions I've felt comfortable in his ability to navigate the steps into the pool so I've let him fetch a little (Specifically the last two when he had his episodes). So, if he's getting too overheated, I wanted to nip that. Oddly, he did wake me in the middle of the night last night panting; however, two of my cats were laying next to him --- he tolerates the kitties, but he's not the biggest fan. I think they were stressing him. He's such a sweet boy he I think he was laying there tolerating it. I moved the kitties and that seemed to work. He was soon back to normal breathing and asleep. Fingers crossed the big guy will not experience anymore fly biting...

The holistic vet we used with Honey told us that nighttime is a common time for seizures. Honey's seizures were from internal overheating...I don't know if he meant that overheating is common overnight or...??? She never acted weird in the morning...which she did after a seizure...so I don't think she was doing that.

One other thing to consider with his life jacket...that'll be extra protection if he happens to seize while swimming. Honey's first seizure hit after she stopped running (cold weather/snow); the second hit with the same timing and she seemed to sense it and lowered herself to the ground; the third hit while she was running (these all occurred within a week's time...same cold/snow) and she just dropped mid-stride. If Samson is in the water when he seizes, the jacket will give you extra time to get to him.

I'd definitely avoid the fetching. Over time, Honey would slow down/stop our fetching sessions...she had been a non-stop fetching fool but she was obviously sensing something wrong/getting warmer for a while before that first seizure. We never did any full-out fetching after that December...let her choose her own level of activity. She'd still run a squirrel and pace off the inside of our yard/fence, but never as fast as before. She knew it was time to settle a bit. She also did less jumping up and down ("dog on a pogo stick" and "bad hips waiting to happen" were two of her lifelong...up to that point...nicknames).

Oh, and Honey's bloodwork was always perfect.

Yes, very much keeping the overheating on the top of my list of things to watch. Good point on the jacket. He will be keeping it on. Did your vet have any idea what was causing the internal overheating in Honey?
