    Blood in stool

Dozer has had two soft stools this evening, both stools have been covered in bright red blood at the end of the stool. My daughter noticed him passing a couple of drops of blood after the first soft poop. He is acting fine, and is currently playing with Cooper.
Backtrack one week... he had diarrhea (no blood) that we treated with a bland diet and he had been having normal stools the last few days. No change in food or medication... any thoughts?

I would definitely get him in to see your Vet...this would concern me.

It would concern me, too. Irritation of some sort. Does he chew on sticks or mulch? That could do it but I'm thinking it just might be associated with whatever caused the diarrhea last week. Too much of a coincidence for me.

I'd go to the vet with a stool sample...Dozer may not need to be seen at this point.

He will chew sticks when given the chance, we try to re-direct his attention away with a toy and remove the stick.

He had another soft poop last night, small amount of blood at the end, he definitely is straining when he goes and will be pushing long after he has finished going. My son and daughter said he was doing that yesterday during the day also. He was up retching in his crate last nigh around 2am, but didn’t throw up. I have held his breakfast and meds and will call the Vet when they open (40 minutes from now)

Bright red blood usually means it is NOT internal bleeding. But for his stools to be "covered" in bright red blood makes me think there's more than a small blood vessel rupture near the anus. A few small drops happen every now and then, from straining. You should take a photo for your Vet, and take in a fresh as possible sample. Call your Vet, after some time lapse they may want you to refrigerate the sample. Good luck.

Definately vet visit, could mean parasite of some sort. Happens but you could be exposing Cooper to it as well and making the problem harder to clear up especially if it is in the lawn.

I called the Vet and am taking him in this afternoon. They did mention a stool sample and I honestly didn’t think he would go again, so they told me not to worry about it.
An hour later Dozer rang the bell to go outside and had another poop, this one soft formed and just a hint of blood, then two minutes later he is straining to have another poop and eventually passes about a 5 inch section of stool with sticks and aim not sure what else in it (it couldn’t be broken up to see) then passes soft stool with some blood.
I worked all weekend and my husband was home... call him to find out he had Dozer outside with him on Sunday while he did outside chores, but didn’t have his eyes on him the whole time. We had the whole “he is still a puppy conversation” and hubby feels bad.... he is so used to Cooper and his laid back ways.
Ill call the Vet back and see if we still need to come in seeing as we now know he has been outside indulging on what he shouldn’t have been

Aww, hope Cooper is better. So scary when they eat things they should not. I've got two sick boys. I was a bad mom and forgot to pick up Ashers poop two nights ago. Samson of course ate it, and now he is vomiting. For whatever reason, Asher now has diarrhea. Cooked up a big batch of rice and ground turkey.

    Good luck with your boy!
