I think we were all hoping to see that this issue had resolved long before now.
I'm sure Asher is enjoying all of the extra attention but would like for the reason to disappear.
Well, my boy is limping on the front right consistently. Not a horrible limp but it's there. My sister really wasn't able to see it but I sure can. We do hydrotherapy twice a week. One of the sessions includes massage therapy. I started doing heat application this week as Berna suggested. I do massage and the heat twice a day. Little battle at the beginning but he's warming up to it. I have a gel pack and I can tell he feels the benefit of the heat (he starts to fall asleep). I just started the heat this week and I'm hoping for relief. I've stopped his walks outside and let him enjoy the comfort of hydrotherapy. He has freedom in the back yard so he is able to run around as he wants.
I called OSU Vet and we are going to head there 12/6 for a 2nd opinion. If the next step is the sliding humeral osteotomy I want to be darn sure before I decide on that surgery. OSU is the best in Ohio. I am all for conservative management if he has a chance at a pain free life. If not, I will do any surgery the surgeon recommends. I just want to here it from the top two practices in Ohio.
He is a very happy boy and plays like a puppy. Thankfully he also has Samson and his feline best friend, Donner.

Sure hope conservative therapy is the answer.

Good to hear you started with the heat compressions, I hope they help! I’d also limit his running/jumping. Walks on leash are fine. With that said, considering his ED and surgery, I wouldn’t expect for his gait to be completely normal... I’d ask for a second opinion but I’d be reluctant to do another surgery.

And I'm glad you were able to get that appt. moved up. Good luck!!!

Little guy is spirited. Some of the sideways looks he gives me is priceless as I'm trying to get the towel wrapped around his elbow. He growls and nibbles at the towel but it's not aggressive. It's like -- leave me the hell alone. Once I get it on him, his body relaxes and he just lays there. I am so very hesitant on another surgery. Even if it means his world will be smaller with conservative management.... He would have lots of love and fun activities that would keep him pain free.
Yes SunDance, I was able to get that appointment to next week -- I was so happy. We go to Outer Banks 11/16 for 9 days and I was really hoping to have the appointment before.
I’d be loath to do more surgery as well. From my understanding, elbow surgery is not usually 100% effective - it can make things better but not really return them to “normal”. Hoping you get some good options from the appointment. Poor guys! Scully had bad elbows, but wasn’t really symptomatic until she was about 6. We managed it conservatively and while her activity was somewhat limited (no running but she could go on long walks and swim) her quality of life was pretty good up until the end.
