    Safe travels.

Detroit weather reports are saying it should be brutal because of the low temperatures and wind. 4-8 inches predicted with more south of Detroit. I hope they are wrong.

It's supposed to finish here (in NJ) on Sunday afternoon - you should be okay, except that the brutal cold that's coming will freeze everything.

Whew, what a day. The high in Lansing was forecast to be 6 today. Woke up yesterday here to 14" of snow. So - I opted to head out this morning and get Samson's new pet sitter to come over and let him out today.

The visit --- Left elbow has osteoarthritis as does the right. Good news - left elbow looks OK. Right elbow -- The bone cysts are there but the surgeon said I should not worry about them. There is a lot of deformity of the bone. So much so it's very hard to distinguish where the good bone is. At some point, one area of the deformed bone is going to fuse with the other and cause significant motion issues. It will fuse the humerus to the ulna. Surgeon is hopeful that is years down the road and I can conservatively manage him for the next several years. He will need a replacement as the bone will continue to deform and create motion and pain issues. I have to keep a close eye on range of motion. If too little, they are not able to do a replacement. So I have to get him checked every 6 months or so on range of motion. Drug regimen is what it needs to be as are supplements. He wants me to keep the hydrotherapy and acupuncture. He does not want me to walk Asher on any hard surfaces unless necessary. I have to stick to grass and sand (and he said stay away from solid sand...thankfully the outer banks has lots of soft sand). He does not want any injection into Asher's joints so no HA injections. He said it risks joint infections and they are not easy to get rid of....and will prevent Asher from being a replacement candidate.

So - there it is. Conservative management for as long as possible. Lot's of stretching, heat/ice therapy, and massage!

I'm beat! Time for bed. We are back home safe. Thanks all for listening to me type about Asher!

I’m glad you were able to make the trip and make the appointment. The plan sounds okay to me, no immediate surgery, a plan to help in the meantime. I bet you’re both pretty tired from the trip so I’m glad you’re back home with both your boys to snuggle with.

It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Thank you! Asher is still whining from the sedation yesterday. Poor guy. Hopefully that is the last sedation for a long time. He's been sedated so many times in the last 8 months....poor boy!

I guess you will work with a physio on passive range of motion to postpone the fusing and keep a good range of motion. Fingers crossed for conservative management to give him a good quality of life for years to come.

Thanks for the update...a pretty good one, at that. All good thoughts headed your way for his comfort and ability to avoid surgery for as long as possible. Glad you had a safe trip.

For sure. He has a therapy session every Friday (has since April) and she does 30 minutes of massage and ROM and then 30 on the treadmill. I do it at home also but most times he thinks it's play time. I will work harder now that I know what the potential is on the fusing. He loves the heat therapy now.

    Thanks SunDance......
