My vet just prescribed Atopica for hepatitis. Does anyone have expierence with this drug. The information I found on line is scary.

I am glad we were able to get off it. Any powerful drug is scary. Oban was on it for itching and that turned out to be a gut issue, which we were able to clear up and now manage with TCM, acupuncture and cold laser. We switched to a Holistic/Integrative Vet. Oban was only on Atopica for three summers, no signs of damage from it.

Is there any concern over negative effect on liver? I read about drug, and it scares me. I gave 1 capsule to Honey, and she vomited the next morning.

Have you thought about a second opinion? I would also be a little nervous about this drug.

Yes, my regular vet said he would not give drug. Too many terrible side effects.

My lab has ITP (auto immune blood disease) and was on Atopica (and prednisone) for a short period of time with no side effect issues. We were fortunate that my pup responded well to prednisone for her disease and only took the Atopica for a few weeks. That said, I know many owners (in my fb groups for the disease) dealing with our disease that use Atopica for long periods with no issues. Honestly, I think the cost of it is the biggest complaint I've read and see many more issues resulting from the prednisone
