Geez, they can really find things they shouldn't. Your description does sound like an allergic reaction to something. I hope he's back to normal soon.
Off to the vet with Barley. Yesterday evening he vomited and had diarrhea. He sometimes sneaks a nibble of sticks or charcoal by our backyard fire pit that can set him off for a few hours so I didn't think much of it. But this morning when we woke up I noticed his face looked a little 'lumpy' for lack of a better word. He's also itchy. Instead of his symmetric wrinkles he has random little puffy swollen spots, almost like hives. His ears are red too. So it's off to the vet to figure out what's going on or what he might have gotten into. For a dog who is under constant supervision his ability to sneak things in his mouth is amazing. Of course it could be environmental, or maybe he's reacting to a treat or food that he hasn't reacted to in the past. Poor guy.

Poor Barley Hope the vet can get him fixed up quickly!
Poor Barley, hope he is feeling better soon!!
Any chance he got into something where spiders or other such little nasties could have bitten him? Brutus laid down under a flowering quince one time and encountered the small whatevers that used to sting/bite me every time I fooled around with the bush. Swollen spots and huge red ear flaps. Seriously itchy.

Back from the vet. Right before we left he vomited up his entire breakfast and he didn't want to drink water. The hives are one of a few different skin symptoms including inflamed ears, red itchy skin around the junk area, and general itchiness. Combined with the vomiting and diarrhea there are a couple of possible issues but right now we're aggressively treating the symptoms as an allergic reaction to something, combined with anti nausea treatment so he can keep water, food, and medications down. She's concerned about dehydration and additional GI tract distress so right now we're just keeping a close eye on him.
We also did an xray for obstruction since he did have some foul burps. And my husband confessed to letting him wander a bit too long unsupervised in the yard yesterday (grrr). There is a suspect mass but nothing conclusive. Nothing built up behind it so right now it's a secondary priority. If he's not better by tomorrow morning, or declines with additional vomiting and/or blood in the stool, he's straight back to the vet for additional diagnostics and IV fluids. But for now he's home and resting after an anti nausea injection and anti inflammatory injection, follwed by a nice cocktail of gut health pills, an anti bacterial, and bendadryl to take home.
Oh, he also has a yeast infection in his left ear.
Also I'm late to catch a flight for work travel. Luckily it's a short one and I'll be back tomorrow night. In the meantime I've typed up EVERY INSTRUCTION for my husband to follow.
Yikes...poor Barley. Hope your protocol takes care of whatever is going on.
Hopefully hubby is feeling guilty enough for this to make a lasting impression on him for closer supervision (yeah...that doesn't always work that way around here)...or at least long enough for him to pay strict attention to your instructions.
Let us know how he does.

I'm now in seattle for the next ~27 hours but reports from husband are that he's "friskier" and no vomiting so I guess that's good!
