Limping puppy diagnosed with elbow dysplasia

So I took piccadillys advise and bought a 42" crate. Should I take the crate to the vet when I pick him up? Or would he be able to walk to my car and sit in the car for 30 minutes? Are his food and water bowls meant to fit in the crate?

Again, your vet will be able to tell you exactly what to expect. What type of car do you have and what is your dog's normal behavior in the car? I often drive my jeep where I put the seats down and allow the dogs to be "free"... but they know car equals sitting or laying down. If your dog is normally active in the car, I would either bring the crate or a second person that can restrict his activity.

I normally feed in crates (two meals a day). When I have a dog on crate rest, yes I hang a bucket of water in there for them.

be prepared for a mess/lots of bowel movements. I picked up Chili about 24 hours after the surgery and he was so loupy/drugged up and so excited to see me that he just pee'd everywhere and from all positions. I thought he emptied his bladder in the Dr office, but nope, on the way to the car, in the car, once we got home...big mess. Chili walked out on his own, but it was a "drunk" walk and the cone on his head had him all off balance. once the drugs wore off, Chili was back to normal balance and energy wise but was miserable with the cone for a couple days. bring his crate might be a great idea. I never even thought about it.
