    Sore on paw

I boarded Diggity last week at the breeder and I think during play with some of the other dogs, he got a sore on his paw. I have been putting triple antibiotic on it and making sure he doesn’t lick it (cone of shame at night), but am wondering what you guys use (preferably all natural) to treat this type of thing. I have a call into the vet to see what she recommends too.

Same as you, but I've wrapped the paw in the sticky vet tech gauze, too.

We got gentaspray from the vet. Also have to wash it with diluted iodine once a day. Had to put the cone back on him after I sprayed it because he started to lick it again.

No, he's not happy at all! I think keeping him from licking it and keeping it clean is where I would start. Some people and animals are allergic to one of the components of tribiotic ointment and I usually do not automatically put it on cuts or scrapes of my own or my dogs. I have put plain vaseline or aquaphor on a scrape to kind of put a barrier between the cut and dirt and to keep the area moist to aid healing. Plus, I don't want my dog licking the antibiotic ointment. Some people here have mentioned using Vetericyn spray for injuries of that sort, I've never tried it. If I don't think my dog will try to eat the dressing, I put a wrap of vet wrap over it too to discourage licking and keep it a little cleaner.

I’m 100% sure he would eat the dressing. I wish I could use that instead of the cone.

You must have posted your update while I was writing my note. Hopefully in a day or so it won't be so tender and will draw his attention less. Maybe the spray stings a little and he must. lick. it. OFF!

I've used this Vetericyn All Animal Wound Skin Care Treatment, 3-oz bottle - Chewy.com. the last couple times we've had open wound issues. Seemed to work pretty well.

Did you have to get a prescription for that?
