Poor Asher and his tummy troubles . Please be patient with him, you'll figure it out soon.

Having too much experience with tummy troubles with Zoe (she had EPI) and Ursa (food allergies/intolerances), I've got some questions for you. Does Asher get live probiotics (the kind you keep in the fridge) 2X daily? Does his food or treats have any fish oil in it, and green peas? How are his liver enzymes - do you have his latest blood-work results on this? Have you tried Slippery Elm capsule yet?

Sorry, but Flagyl won't heal his tummy, it will just unbalance it even more. Antibiotics aren't the cure-all for everything, especially the digestive system. Consider looking into Traditional Chinese medicine's ways of treating and healing unbalanced digestive systems, you'll be surprised how simple it is.

I give the boys Probios. I don't think it's live so to speak. His doctor said we were going to run some allergy tests for food intolerances next. His food doesn't have fish oil but he gets 2400mg a day. Orders from his surgeon. He's been on for quite a while. He gets liver blood work every six months for Rimadyl. Always clean. He had blood work Tuesday and it came back "perfect". Dr. ran 4 panels I think. I was charged for four tests. He is on so many supplements I don't add extras. He has to have the supplements for his elbow. He's been off all of them since Monday so we can figure out what's going on with his belly.

I am VERY happy to say that we had our first solid nights sleep in days last night. Between flagyl and bland it did the trick. Doctor only wanted me to do flagyl for a few days to get rid of inflammation. Understood it will not cure the belly and not our solution. But in the past, it has helped him calm down.

I'm going to have to get him back on rimadyl though. His limp is greatly increasing. He had acupuncture last night so that will offer some relief.

edited to add -- Probios is live. And I do keep in the fridge.

So sorry to hear about Asher. Wonder if an ulcer could be involved; just a thought since it seems almost everything has been excluded.

    Sending healing prayers.

Well, here's an update... On Friday and Saturday morning, Asher had rice and pumpkin. No nausea at all. On Saturday PM, I added ground turkey. Saturday PM he got slight nauseated. On Sunday PM, more nauseated but did not get sick. Very early this morning around 01:00, he became very nauseated and I couldn't relax him. He vomited a medium pile of rice shortly after. Went back to sleep and slept like a baby the remainder of the night. I emailed his doctor the update. I gave him rice and scrambled eggs for breakfast.

Are oats an OK bland food? A while back, I was out of rice and gave him oatmeal for like 3 days. He loved it and they helped get his belly feeling better.

I asked the doctor what our next steps were. I know if I were to introduce kibble he'd be back to where he was. I'm going to ask if we can do an ultrasound and then if the doctor wants to test for food allergies I'm good with that next step.

Purina has 2 formulas for sensitive skin and stomach and one of them is lamb and oatmeal, so I'd think the oatmeal might work. I just skimmed a few articles on "Dr. Google", some mention oatmeal as an acceptable substitute, others suggest pumpkin, pasta, or sweet or white potatoes as substitutes but not oatmeal. Maybe with his system, it might take some trying of this or that to find what he tolerates best.
