My money's on the Rimadyl as being the cuprit.
He had yogurt with dinner last night. I've been giving him yogurt and cottage cheese all week. One in AM, the other PM. I bet it's the Rimadyl too. I might try galliprant?

I injected myself, with Vet instruction.
Interesting, never heard of this. He's gets adequan injections monthly. Due for one today but I need to talk to his doctor first.

Aren't carprofen and Rimadyl the same thing, but you can also give it in an injectable form? Snowshoe- how often were you giving the injections? I know adequan is monthly for a certain number of doses but I thought carprofen injections are only effective for 24 hours.

FWIW, Lark has taken Galliprant for her shoulder tendonitis and for what were probably sprained toes (she's got very sensitive toes, it seems, the little princess). She tolerates the Galliprant well and I give it once a day with a meal. Of course, she doesn't have any pre-existing stomach issues so it may be different for Asher. I know I've given my dogs Pepcid (famotidine) when they've had a gastritis, and I've heard of dogs getting sucralfate, which kind of coats the stomach and esophagus to help heal ulcers. I just mention those as things I know are used in case your vet suggests trying them. I'm really hoping you find answers soon.

The spelling is different. One is the generic of Rimadyl and the other is not a pain reliever. Sounds more like adequan.

I have no experience with Galliprant but have read good things about it, and Labrador people swear by it. Rimadyl on the other hand... so many horror stories impossible to ignore. If I were you I’d talk to the vet about switching. I think you have to wean him off Rimadyl first.

Also, I’d do an ultrasound first and if everything comes back okay then I’d look for food allergies. I don’t agree with your vet to look for allergies first, especially since he has been on Rimadyl for so long.

Thanks, I'm going to talk to him about the meds and switching. I don't think he wants to look for food allergies first. Just the way I'm sharing the info. I've talked to him so much I can't keep it all straight. The way he said it he wants to clear the meds first and then look into food allergies if the meds check out. Something like that. I will def. push a scope or ultrasound. Poor guy needs something.

Adequan is also an alternative to Rimadyl. Carprofen is hard on the liver. Cartrophen Vet (yes, could they not have come up a different name)is better for the liver. Liver issues can affect the stomach. I did switch to Adequan when we thought Oban had developed a problem with the Cartrophen Vet. The Adequan had to be injected more often and was much more expensive; this may be opposite for you, at least cost wise, since you are in the U.S. That was when Oban was so sick, lost so much weight, was eventually diagnosed with Lymphangiectasia. We went off all meds, slowly off the Prednisone, and switched to the new Holistic/Integrative Vet who said home cooked one novel protein and one novel carb and I swear that saved his life.

Indeed. You both need a break.

I use to give Rosie a 20mg tablet of Pepcid AC, the vet recommended it and it worked well for her.
