    Asher Stomach Issues

Well, in search of good mojo for poor Asher. This guy can't catch a break. Some time after the start of the year, I had to take Asher in because he was vomiting at night. Flagyl seemed to clear it up. Occasionally he was getting nauseated at night so I started giving him a bit of kibble right before bed. Since his nasty UTI, he's had on an off vomiting. Right after vacation, he started vomiting so his Dr. gave him some flagyl. With bland food, cleared up. Now 10 days later, he's vomiting again and getting very nauseated at night. All else is normal. I take him in on Tuesday for full tests. I am hoping it's just a simple GI issue. I'm well aware of all the alternatives so very much hoping for something simple. He's lost a lot of sleep over this and so I have. Poor guy keeps me up all night with his smacking and air licking. Add in his tossing and turning. I pull him close and rub his belly and throat. Seems to help for a bit. Please send him good mojo!

Of course...mojo on the way for your sweet boy.

Any chance you're giving him something (food, treats, supplements) or he's getting into something that he is sensitive to...not a true allergy, just an intolerance. It could be something like too much of something he'd otherwise tolerate (here, it's glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM...have to be really careful with these two).

Crossed my mind. He has taken the same supplements since April of last year. He gets two (am/pm) Glycoflex III chews daily, 1,000 mg Ester C, and 2400mg of fish oil. Nothing has changed so it could possibly be he has developed an intolerance to one? These are so important for his elbows. Because of the nausea, I changed him to Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach but it hasn't made a difference. No other change in foods. Treats are rare....just the occasional bark box treats at a minimum. My gut is telling me he ate something he should not have several months ago and it's still in his belly. I sure hope I am wrong.

My experience with these guys leads me to suspect the supplements. GlycoFlex ingredients can cause nausea. Too much vitamin C can cause nausea. And, yes, intolerances tend to crop up over time.

I'd cut out the supplements...all three...and give him a rest. See what happens. Then add back slowly, lower doses, one supp at a time. If he gets only one of those in the p.m., like the GF....that's the one I'd suspect first since his vomiting is at night.

Fish oil can cause nausea, especially if you're not also giving vitamin E.

ETA: That's weird. My last sentence was typed in as the second sentence of the first paragraph. Spooky.

Would definitely have to be a new intolerance because he has had the same ones since last year with no issues until this year. I'll let Dr. Scott run tests and if they are inconclusive, I'll pull back the supplements. This is something I've already considered doing. I've also considered Rimadyl being a factor.

Is he on NSAIDs? I'd suspect those first.

ETA: Nevermind, just read your reply. Rimadyl would be on the top of my list of potential culprits especially if he's on it long-term.

I forgot he was on Rimadyl, too. I presume he gets that 2X daily, too?

I've always had to give that with yogurt at a meal in order to avoid (to the extent possible) nausea and vomiting. Fingers crossed, the yogurt is working for Sunnie. I had to give my Akita girl 1/2-dose with yogurt to get any to stay down.

One other thing to consider....any one of those things might not be the culprit all on its own. Combining them could be the issue (tough to work around giving with meals if can't give them together).

He is. We do blood tests every six months. Last test was in November. I know there is another NSAID out there and have thought about switching. Poor guy.

    All good thoughts!

Stormy had a 3 am vomiting session last night. I hope it’s a one-off and not the start of something. These kids...
