    Galliprant

Anyone use this for their dog? Niner just got prescribed this because his elbows have come back to haunt him. He has to lose weight too and was put on a prescription food. Just curious about any experiences with this drug. Thanks

my vet surgeon friend recommended I check out galliprant fro chili. think he said it is new drug designed specifically for dogs/cutting edge science. chili never was on it has his elbows have been problem free since I started him on dasequine and vetquinol. cant believe those supplements have helped so much...but they are expensive.

I've used it for Chloe on an as needed basis but it hasn't been needed much. My vet says it works much like Rimadyl and other NSAIDS but is easier on the liver, etc. It's a newer drug and supposed to be safer for long-term use. She mostly needed it for back muscle problems but it's main use is for arthritis. Seems fine, but Rimadyl never bothered her either, so can't really tell much difference.

I was given Galliprant for Lark for her shoulder tendonitis last summer and again when she's had what may have been a toe sprain or something making her toe painful. She doesn't take it all the time but it's the pain med both the general vet and rehab vet thought was the right med for her. She tolerates it just fine and it seems to work.

Thanks - Niner is on Cosequin DS plus MSM and fish oil, but apparently it's not helping as much as he needs it. The surgeon I saw today said his elbows are inflamed and there are bone spurs (not in the joint thankfully). Niner is 6 and will be 7 at a the end of July. I hate putting him on an NSAID at such an early age IMO. Charlie isn't even on one and he is 11. I guess adequan doesn't relieve inflammation? Or does it? Charlie is on adequan and he has done well. Bleh. We have an appointment in two weeks so I will see how he is doing on Galliprant

Scully went on Deramaxx at I think around 8 for bad elbows. She made it to 15+, and while her eventual kidney failure may have been related to the long term use, you can't ask for more than that anyway. I always looked at it as a quality of life issue - we tried everything else (supplements, accupuncture, etc) and when that stopped being enough went on NSAIDS on first an "as needed" then on a daily basis. I figured better a shorter happier life than a longer miserable one. I do understand not wanting to start him so young though. Have you tried cold laser? It's been great for Chloe, but her issues were more muscle than bone.

I've never used adequan but I think it is supposed to have an anti-inflammatory effect. I've heard it can be effective in many cases and might be worth trying before NSAIDS if you haven't already given it a shot.

I wonder why the Dr. would put him on an nsaid (galliprant) before adequan? He mentioned adequan but said we will reserve that for later possibly.
