Scary Whimpering and Crying Out, AGAIN. But Resolved Thanks to our Great Vet

It's his neck. Again, but I forgot he had neck pain before and was so scared his back had gone out. We walked about an hour this morning with no problems. But back in the jeep to go home Oban was whimpering, then crying out. I stopped and called the Vet before we got home. Turned out she was on a house call and had to go right by my house anyway on her way back to the clinic. She checked Oban all over and it's not his back, as was my fear, but his neck. She gave him a manipulation and cold laser and I still have some Metacam left from last time. He's feeling pretty sad though, because jumping down or going down stairs hurts his neck so I have stairs and chesterfield blocked off. Our bed will be too, later. Poor little baby boy pup.

Aww, sorry to hear about his neck. Glad you have some answers. Any thoughts on how he hurt it?

I wonder if that's what caused his hesitation on the stairs the other day. Hope it resolves quickly.

Oban is much better now the Metacam has kicked in. He's to be on it 7 days. WE have our suspicions how this started, way back in September of last year when we discovered our fence had been cut. We can't prove it but the timing is suspicious for his first episode of hurt neck complete with infection and wound site. Yes, Barb, now we think the stairs at my sister's two weeks ago was the same thing. Our house is a split level so only half flights of stairs. Sis's stairs are a full flight. Thanks all for your good thoughts.

Gosh, poor Oban. I see he's wearing a harness in your signature photo so that's good, no stress on his neck. I wonder what caused it to flare up again? I'm glad the Metacam is helping.

I just rearranged the back of my jeep so he can lie on the biggest back seat and rest against the back of the seat. Before the whole back was down flat. I'm not an aggressive driver taking corners on two wheels but there have been a few times a turn has upset his balance if he is lying on his stomach and he's lurched to stay upright. I know myself the smallest unexpected movement can make a hurt worse, it's the jolt, however small. Sitting up or lying flat on his side he's ok, it's just when he lies on his stomach. We'll see how this works.

P.S. Yes, he started wearing the harness when he hurt his neck the first time.

Poor Oban! Being cut off from the bed, I do believe is the worst fate for a Lab!
