    Shedding / Antibiotics ?

    Hello all!

My pup just turned 1 year old on June 24th. Unfortunately that same day, he got bit on his ear by another dog and had to have stitches, He was on antibiotics up until last week.

During this time frame, he has been shedding like crazy. I realize he is a lab and they shed a lot - but now we can pull clumps of fur off of him, find hairballs in all corners of the house, etc. Is this normal for July in the Midwest? I thought they blew their coats in the spring and "less" shedding through-out the year. Could it be the antibiotics making him lose fur? My other thought was, when do they get their adult coat? Is the shedding more obvious now because it's not a puppy coat?

I do have a follow up vet appointment and will ask her as well, but just wanted to get insight in the meantime . Thanks!

Sounds like normal shedding to me, it tends to shock many when they get their first Lab! You may also be noticing a bit more shedding due to the recent stress your pup was under. Frequent, regular brushing outside helps immensely.

Sam had a big shed in December and is now shedding again in July. I feel like Sam doesn't shed at "normal" times during the year.

When Cabo was on doxy (antibiotic) I noticed an increase in shedding...no bald spots, but there were like clumps of hair falling out.
