I use Iverheart Max for heartworm prevention. It also helps with tapeworms, roundworms & hookworms.

We used to use Frontline and a pill for heartworm (can remember the name off hand). Lola got a big hot spot from the Frontline a couple of times, so we moved to the Trifexis. I haven't noticed any problems with it, but I don't like going without tick protection. I've been thinking about trying a Seresto collar, even though the reviews are mixed.

ArchieSit - The Trifexis pill can be chewed or swallowed. We normally use the surprise method. Cover the pill with peanut butter, open your dogs mouth and place it on the back of tongue. Hold your dogs mouth shut and massage the neck. It'll literally take about a second, but you'll see your dog swallow, then take your hand off the mouth. Works every time...and Lola thinks she just got a treat.

I've heard some horror stories about side effects using Trifexis. I wouldn't use it, but I don't like any flea/tick control that has to be ingested personally. I'm not a huge fan of topicals either, but prefer them over pills. I only use Frontline when I see fleas. Living in Florida, spring time is when it's the worst for fleas. No tick issues here. I use Heartgard for HW prevention. I'm also not a fan of combo flea/HW products because I have to give HW every month, but flea stuff isn't necessary every month for my dogs.
