    Scraped leg picture

Sorry, the previous text wouldn't let me update a picture or add another from my phone. I'll have to download photo bucket. Maya scraped her leg about 2 hours ago maybe. It was bleeding bad at first and now looks like this: does she need stitches? I am cleaning it and it is currently wrapped in a looser fighting gauze. The wound can breathe but maya can't lick.

Hard to tell from the picture and I'm not a vet, but to me it looks more like a nasty shallow scrape than a serious laceration requiring stitches. I'd probably try my best to keep it clean to prevent infection, wouldn't let her lick it because it would keep reopening the wound and wouldn't let it heal, and watch it closely just in case there should be some changes for the worse as then it would definitely require a vet visit. Fingers crossed, hoping it heals soon.

I'd visit the vet. You don't want that to get infected.

I would see a Vet, otherwise I would worry endlessly! Probably no stitches, but would still prefer a visit to finding out later that there was something I should have done.

Agree with a vet visit, those type of wounds can get nasty in a hurry costing more very quickly from infection.

VET ASAP! You don't want it to get infected...and they will also clean it properly.

    Please update when you can.

If me, my kids or dogs have a scratch / cut the guidelines seem to be if the bleeding stops with some pressure then Bacitracin / Neosporin or some other antibiotic ointment & a bandage is all that is needed.

If the bleeding continues after a few minutes then we call in the pros.

For a dog some stretchy / clingy wrap stuff would be needed to keep the gauze in place. I suppose an Ace bandage would work in a bind.

Better picture. It does look less serious than what I was seeing in the other picture. There is one area that looks a little deep. I'd still suggest a vet visit to make sure it's well cleaned out and that a stitch in that one area is not needed. The scraped part would need regular cleaning, something like Neosporin, a gauze cover and then vet wrap to keep your pup from licking. It's going to itch as it heals.

I'm going to watch her over the weekend and make sure it doesn't get infected. Right now the majority is already closed and scarring. Just one area that is still worrysome but not deep enough for stitches. Now I worry about infection. I cleaned it and have put neosporin on the whole wound and wrapped it in some bandage wrap. She walks fine, runs. Still hyper girl but just wants to lick it. I'll leave the bandage on today, let the neosporin do it's thing and see how she is tomorrow. If no improvement we will be going to the vet Monday! The scar area is already white. No yellowish infection tint. Hoping she's ok! This would be vet visit 4 in two months if I have to go (which I would-anything for my pups!)
