Don't worry about it. You take good care of your pup. A lot of people wouldn't even have theirs treated.

Finished up the weeding and then tossed the bone in with the weeds and into the yard waste bin it went (much to his dismay)...
Re the above sentences in bold: I am late coming to this thread, but just wanted to share... Should you or Gunner ever find another bone in your yard, check to see, for curiosity's sake, if the edges have gnaw marks on them. On many occasions this summer, I have been finding pieces of dry weathered bone of varying types and size in my back yard, with Kayla sometimes finding them before I do. I only ever give her a raw beef rib bone once a month (and only in the house) so I know that these non-rib bones were coming from an "outside" source. One time she had gotten a hold of a longish thin splintery bone (cat's leg bone?) and chewed a bit before I realized what she was doing, which eventually brought on a vet visit/treatment and worry over symptoms of bloody liquid diarrhea, vomiting and fever. Now I keep a closer eye on her chewings and make my rounds scanning the lawn for bones when I take her out.

Anyway, after doing an internet search I came across different accounts of squirrels dropping bones that they have been gnawing while up in the tree limbs (neighbor's overhanging walnut in our case). So, having a couple put up on my potting bench in the garage I took a closer look and sure enough, the gnaw marks were present.

    Here's a photo I snapped of one:

Kayla doesn't mind the idea of bones falling out of the sky but I... I'm the ol' lady shaking my fist at the squirrels that give my poor dog a bone!

Worth keeping an eye out for them at any rate.

    Glad Gunner's extractions went smoothly.
