I don't know why i bother turning for support from a board of dog owners. It's always the same thing "see your vet" "go to a specialist" ….spend more money. Forget I even posted on this board

Wow your attitude realy stinks! Your dog could have a jaw bone degeneration issue causing all this tooth loss. If you don't want to do what is right for the dog than place her with someone who will.

For all you know it could be a form of bone cancer causing all the tooth loss. Have you done any full blood work? She is 7 and should have this done yearly from here on out.

Oh, but that will just cost you more money...... Your poor dog.

    Your attitude makes me sick.

Sorry other board members but this persons post really pisses me off......

Wow... do you want help or not? A broken tooth with the root still in needs to be removed but surely you know this. Why this is happening? Who knows. Probably genetics.... my Maddy wore her teeth down bad. Never needed surgery though.

If you'd read my original post I said she has Zero health issues. I take care of my girl better than most dog parents so how dare you criticize my job as a pet parent. Your judgemental and quick to point down on persons right? I have spent more on my dog than majority of people have when their dog reaches 7. You are not a vet. Don't give medical advice. I came for support from owners who give a damn and may have a related experience. You obviously have no tact or proactive advice.

As a pet owner, I would also state that a specialist is needed, as further investigation needs to be done. The advise given are from some very experienced breeders, who know more about Labrador genetics, and are advising you accordingly. Health issues can pop up any time, no matter how well a pet owner takes care of their pets. I had a 7 year old purebred Kuvacz die of liver cancer. Never showed a sign until we saw weight loss. 20 days later, he was gone.

Poor girl . By increasing her calcium either in her diet or with a supplement, this will help her teeth. Look also to see if her kibble has vit D in it.

Does she have an underlying issue with her kidneys?

I assume you are referring to me and my post. No one is criticizing you other than your attitude in your post about not wanting to go to the vet and spend money to find out what is really going on with your dog.

And no I am not a vet, never claimed to be, and the reason I suggest you seek the advice of a veterinary specialist. What part of that did you not understand?

And trust me you have not spent nearly what I have on my dogs (try close to 8K by the time one was 4 years old). Or what others members here have spent. So please relax and don't go there. No one is looking to compete on who spends more on their dogs health care.

You need to please take a deep breath, calm down, and try to take in the advice being given. You asked for advice and we are trying to tell you what we think you should do. None of us are vets............. and I think few have experienced what you are going thru and therefore, would tell you to go to a specialist.

Telling you to go to a specialist is not "giving" medical advice. Its telling you to "get" medical advice from a vet/specialist.

As far as my not having tact or proactive advice...... many on this board would disagree with you.

As I said, take a deep breath, (sleep on it) and listen when someone tells you to go to a vet. That advice is obviously because the person does not have experience with your issue that they can pass on.

Ask me about kidney failure, liver disease, recessed vulvas, seniors with arthritis, understanding blood work, proper vaccinating, etc. and I would be happy to give my experience and advice. But a dog with fracturing teeth I can not advise other than to see a professional.

Here's my two cents, for what it's worth. I joined the board looking for information on entropian- an eye condition that suddenly presented itself. The vet told me she needed surgery, but that we should wait to see if she grows out if it. The forum immediately told me to see a specialist. But the vet told me I didn't need to go to a specialist. I waited a little while before I ended up going to a veterinary opthomologist. By the time I got to the specialist (I had to wait for an appointment and take a half day personal day from work) they did all sorts of tests and told me that she would most likely grow out of it. If I had gotten there sooner when she was younger though I think they would have tacked her eyelids down--- and probably solved her problem. Now she hasn't grown out of it as much as I had hoped and she may still need surgery. I really wish I had her eyelids tacked down by the specialist early on. My point is---- IF there is something you could be doing to help your dogs teeth-- preventative care--- you could learn it from the specialist. IF there is an underlying problem you aren't aware of--- the specialist would know more about that. You may be just fine not going.. But I have learned to listen to advice here. It's incredible how much the people on this forum truly care about your dog and want to help.

Hoping things have calm down for you. I'd be the same way if Lilly was going through that. Panic as something is happening to a very healthy loved one. And all we want is answers and a way to make it all better again. Truly understand that feeling.

Like WhoopsaDaisy, I came here when I rescued a Lab mix, a breed I had no idea about. Trying to settle in a semi-feral dog that had a rough start. Found everything I needed here to help me on my way. Taking the suggestions of many pet owners, breeders and handlers, and finding a way to break through.

When it comes to a health problem, I'm sure going to ask here, take all in information given generously from the Community here (pet owners, breeders and handlers), and then go to a Vet, with all the information at hand to help me make the best decisions for my Lilly. Truly grateful for this Community.

Hoping you find out what's going on. Sending good vibes for you and your dog.

Our vets always refer to a vet dentist for out-of-the-ordinary cases....you really do want the expertise of someone who works with dental issues day in and day out, not just someone who does cleaning and simple extractions.

My husband is a dentist....he refers out for extractions where there may be complications. Same reason.

You asked for suggestions. You got suggestions and the recommendation to see a specialist. You say for us to not act as vets....but you seemed to want medical advice with your initial post....which we can't give. We can share only what we have experience with. I'm confused as to what you wanted and your reaction to what you got.

I have had more than my share of experience with vet dentists...and a human one....so this is what I have to offer.
