That's exactly what DH and I said to each other... at $35 a pop for Bordatella, 2x a year that's $70 per dog. Multiply that by 500 (minimum) dogs... extra $35,000 a year. I was not happy. This is a totally new policy, Bordatella used to be optional. I'm not unnecessarily vaccinating my dog for a harmless virus when chances are she'll get it even if she is vaccinated. Ugh!

I have to wonder, do they ask a brand new patient that? And then tell them they can't come in if they haven't had it? Do they ask to see proof of vaccination from the previous Vet? What are they going to do, run outside to shoot a poof of stuff up the new dog's nose and tell it to come back in two weeks? Where were they going to have you set your feet till your pup got it? I looked up recommendations on the time it takes the poof to be effective and came up with 2 days to 2 weeks.

If you and a friend have time to spare you could test that out. A phone call from a prospective (fake) new client might be all it takes.

Even if you get a new Vet you are going to run into this same issue when you go to other "commercial" dog activities such as doggie day care or boarding/kenneling, dog obedience classes etc. They all want proof of bordatella. Very frustrating.

    Yes, new vet, no question!
I've read that this vaccine isn't all that effective anyway.

Definitely find a new vet. Mine won't even offer it unless the owner requests it for whatever reason (boarding, daycare, etc), and even then explains what a waste it is.

New Vet. There are many types of kennel cough out there and the vaccine protection is for one type. I work in Veterinary medicine and there is no way any Veterinarian would tell me what type or frequency of vaccines I had to give to my pets.

The doggy daycare/training facility in my area doesn't require it, luckily.

Yes, but not all people use Boarding or Day Care, but all dog owners need a vet.

sounds like a really great way to get more money from clients! I can see their thinking, they don't want to comtaminate the waiting room with kennel cough and have a bunch of dogs get it from there then complain loudly to their office. but even if a dog has the vaccination they can still GET kennel cough and bring it in the office so it's not a full proof plan anyway.
I'm living proof of this. Charlie got the vaccine, but he still got kennel cough.

I would definitely switch vets. Or just very adamantly argue your point.
