WARNING - DISGUSTING : The tennis ball pieces that were in Koopa's stomach

Here are the pics I took of what was in Koopa's stomach and of his surgery stitches. This really illustrates the danger of tennis balls (I never gave him tennis balls but people bring them to the park and he has to be watched like a hawk - something to which I obviously failed...)

Here's the picture of the x-ray again:

Poor thing. Opie's always been supervise with his tennis balls. We play fetch at home or lake then they're put away until next time. Sure glad I do that after seeing your pics. Hope Koopa has a speedy recovery. I wouldn't beat myself up over it, hindsights always 20/20 and full of "had only"'s and "shoulda"'s

Glad he got those out! It is very hard to supervise for something like this at a dog park. When I used to take Tux, there were tennis ball pieces he would try to eat. When he would run around, I could only stay so close behind to make sure he didn't eat any.

Oh My God, That's a lot of tennis balls! I hope he does well with the recovery. I'm glad you have insurance. I have this same fear of what you just went through. Wylie is an eating Machine! He eats sticks, he's eaten a whole tube of Neosporine, he even ate and tore up a 1/4 of his plastic Crate tray one night I was out and he was in his crate. I was feeling sharp shards of plastic in his poop for a week. Lucky that he had no blood and passed it. It's always a concern of mine.

Glad Koopa is doing well and don't feel bad, it happens to the best of us. Good luck with him and hope he heels fast.

What a mess. I assume he found the bits and ate them since you don't give him tennis balls. You probably would have seen him tearing up a ball. I have seen dog parks just littered with tennis balls, some people bring in lots and dump them for all the dogs to play with. I don't think I've seen a dog tear one into bits like this but they are certainly capable.

Hope Koopa makes a speedy recovery. I'm sure he's happy to be home.

No wonder poor Koopa could not pass all that! So glad you posted; it's an important warning for others. We monitor them in our own yards but the park is a whole different scenario.

    The incision looks good.

    Sending more healing prayers.
