Exclamation Possible Broken/abscessed top left molar...

I noticed Buddha's breath had been especially rank the last couple days. Today while we were playing around I pinned him down and managed to get a good look and unfortunately what I saw doesn't look good. Here is what his top left molar looks like as of 30 minutes ago -

I called his vet immediately but they're closing up shop for the rest of the long weekend, so we won't be able to get in until Tuesday morning. Buddha doesn't seem to be in any pain at all, he's lively and playful and hasn't shown any discomfort or signs of slowing down when eating kibble so I guess that's a good sign. But as you can see in the picture it looks visibly infected and his breath is unbelievably bad right now.

I'm going to feed him only soft canned food until his vet appointment Tuesday. Is there anything else I can do until then to make sure he's comfortable and that whatever that is doesn't burst or get more infected if that's even possible?

Thanks for the read, any advice is appreciated!

I personally would not mess around with an abscess especially in the mouth and would probably head to the e-vet. Possibly they could hold off on any surgical procedures and just provide you with something to fight the infection until your regular vet sees him on Tuesday.

    ^x2.

If there is an infection, your vet may want to give an antibiotic before pulling the tooth anyway.

I have a water additive with chlorohexadine in it that I use on a regular basis. Vet recommended it after all the dental surgery Archie had. It's called Breathalyzer.

    Sending good thoughts.

Hmm, I'd be tempted to drive to a vet that is open or could you send this photo to your vet on your phone? Or even send the photo to a vet that may be a distance away? It is a really good photo so they may be able to help you or ease your mind.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Prayers for you both. I'd head to the e-vet as well.

I personally wouldn't be going to Emergency over this but I would be trying for a regular appointment as soon as I could. It looks weird to me because it seems like it's from the bottom of the tooth? Not at the gum line?

Also, what does your dog do for recreational chewing? I noticed some general yellow teeth....

This is what I thought...it looks like an abscess on the tooth...but I have never had any problems with teeth so couldn't tell what it was.

You would think that a vet could look at this photo via a text message when it's a long weekend break and give the poster some advice to urgency.

Hoping the OP comes back and let's us know!

How's Buddha doing? Any updates? Hope everything's been solved, he got the treatment the tooth required, and he's fine.
