Oban is itchy because of his allergies and because of the folliculitis. The wipes are helping with both.

I wondered. so glad he's getting some relief! You and your dh must be soooo relieved to see him improving, even with the folliculitis now. Still much better than the handsome fellow was doing a month ago.
So sorry to hear about Oban's troubles. The poor little guy has had a rough time. Sending healing vibes your way.
I am glad to hear he is gaining weight and feeling better!
One thing a couple of people have mentioned to me that I didn't think much of before, sometimes an oatmeal bath or soak can actually make things worse. So it was recommended that I try a coconut based shampoo and that has helped. But for me it wasn't about allergies it was about dandruff so not sure if that will be helpful to you. I would try it though. Or maybe look into some of the DerMagic stuff.

Yes, I have heard oatmeal can be drying and that might make some itching worse. By co-incidence just after she told me about oatmeal I got a Whole Dog Journal email article about, what? The exact same thing, oatmeal for calming itch. It must work for some and maybe I will try it to see, but Oban is already so dry in his skin.
Boy, a person could get used to this. Oban had a bath with his medicated shampoo yesterday and his coat is SO soft. Of course a Lab coat is not supposed to be soft but now that he has only an undercoat he feels plush. Almost like sheared beaver, if anyone knows what that is like. Even before the bath he had lost whatever stray guard hairs were left except for the very, very end of his tail, his twizzle. It's weird. Nice to touch, his coat, but wrong and weird.
He got the bath because he's become extremely itchy. We wonder if the outer coat is coming back in, I imagine that might itch. Unfortunately the bath did not relieve his itch as it usually does and I am waiting for a reply from the Vet on how to proceed.
Poor Oban, he has had it pretty rough this year, I am so glad to hear he is gaining weight. Sending good thoughts he is itch free and continues to stay healthy.
