Pyometra surgery

Here she is, last year on a trip to the lake. Thank you again for all of your kind words. Since I got the call, I set up her crate with a foam pad wrapped in a clean sheet. I've trained her to go on puppy pads in worst-case scenarios, so I will set one on my deck and she won't have to go down stairs (Our deck has almost 10 stairs to get to the yard).

The veterinary practice is comprised of a husband and wife team. The wife is the bitch (sorry, that's what she is), but the husband is wonderful. He did the surgery, so we will be meeting with him today at 5p to discuss aftercare. He did say that the incision would be quite a bit bigger than a normal spay, just so they could get the uterus out without damage or possibility of rupture.



I will never, ever, regardless of outside advice, not spay a female again.


@windy I'm so so glad the Goldens made it through okay! It's a horrifying thing to go through to begin with, but made worse by the fact that you receive an attitude due to the circumstances.

Aftercare isn't difficult, keep her quiet, no jumping, running, that sort of stuff. Make sure they give you pain meds

Just seeing this. So glad the surgery went well. She'll probably have a rough night; sometimes the anesthesia is hard for them to shake off. Be very careful with exercise, in face none, other than outside to potty for a good 10-14 days. No stairs.
