Thank you to everyone for all of your thoughts about what we should look into. I called both our primary vet, another vet that a friend goes to, and an ortho surgeon that I was referred to. All of them said that in Colorado tick borne illnesses are very rare and that it is more likely to be elbow dysplasia or another problem with her leg that is causing the limp. The ortho vet said that of course they would not rule out the tick borne illnesses, but that since they are so rare in Colorado that is not their go to for testing prior to doing x-rays. The prices these vets quoted me were comparable to what you all of shared - about $200.

I have lived my entire life here - Colorado; with numerous dogs over the years either between myself, relatives or friends.

Only one dog ever tested positive for Lymes (tick related) disease, which was a little Pomeranian I grew up with....she got lymes from a tick while visiting Arkansas that summer - tick was still in her neck.

    Good luck...
Sorry I was pushing for the TBD test-I had no idea they are so uncommon in CO>, here they are so prevalent, I just assumed...
Hope you get to the bottom of it
