She got tons of snuggles yesterday. It took an hour to walk up the stairs yesterday, lots of resting and snuggles on the landings (we live on the 3rd floor... technically 2nd since the 1st floor is half basement level). I felt so awful I couldn't carry her but it would have been more dangerous with me staggering around trying not to drop her! I have a hard enough time walking up stairs without carrying anything as is ;-).

The whimpering turned into a whistling. I caught her licking so she is currently sporting underpants from her heat and an old T-shirt of mine. Her incision is a lot smaller than I expected. She didn't want to eat anything yesterday, not even her favorite cookies, which is highly unusual but I expected. She wouldn't pee yesterday either. She wagged her tail while doing her nightly FaceTime with her dad (DH is in Holland for work).

This morning, she did the biggest pee I've ever seen her pee in my life. Must be all the IV fluids! She hasn't drank any water but I left some out for her, I won't be able to go back home until 11 but my neighbor is checking in on her and giving her extra snuggles and I have my surveillance cameras on her. She was much more mobile with the stairs this morning! Still slower than usual but that's a good thing.

Hopefully anyone whose dog gets spayed after Luna uses this thread as a kind of diary on what to expect!

The vet did give me a Benadryl dosage to sedate her if she is too excited to paint the town! I have a bunch of pre made Kongs all ready to go in the freezer to keep her busy and we do lots of fun indoor nose work games but she is still extremely wild and rambunctious if she doesn't get her 2 hours of off leash play a day. No play time for 2 weeks!

Here's a video of her surgery drunk for anyone who doesn't follow me on Instagram: Instagram

Bless her heart, she is just precious! I love her tail wags, you can tell they would be full body wags if not for the meds. It sounds like you have lots of things ready to help her get through the next 2 weeks. That is truly the worst part once you get over the fear of leaving them for surgery and guilt from the whining. Sending good thoughts for Luna's speedy recovery.

Andddddddd she's back to being nuts, but this time I can't exercise her at all :-(.

Luna-tic, lunatic, get it? ;-) We were right on the money when we named her as a pup!

Great update for Luna, hard on you. Would be best to crate her with a cone so she can't get in trouble.

    Sending more healing prayers.

I have been putting the soft cone on her for when I run out with the garbage or to check the mail etc. She is not happy about it. She is wearing one of my old T-shirts and underpants from her last heat as extra lick protection. She whines for the cone to come off, I take the cone off, and little girl immediately tries to lick! So the cone goes back on. Silly girl.

Glad to hear surgery went well. Very important to keep her quiet so crating is usually necessary. Also be sure and leash her going up and down the stairs so she goes slow and can not rip her stitches (internal or external).

I do crate and leash potty breaks for 10 days after a spay. Of course if the dog is calm being with me in the room on a dog bed is fine. But with other dogs in the house often the crate is needed.

We've had to start Benadyrl-ing her... little girl won't calm down without it. My vet prescribed 50 mg, 2x a day. So far 25 mg, 2x a day has helped but I'm prepared to amp up the dosage to 50 if need be. DH and I don't feel bad either, it's only 2 weeks and she has to stay quiet for her own good! My vet did say to call if the Benadryl doesn't seem to work and she'll give me the big gun sedatives.

She's been doing very well having a Tshirt on. She can't access her incision for licks or to scratch at it and she does look awfully cute. I will try to remember to upload a picture.
