Thanks - I will get some gold bond. I do feel like a major idiot that I never even envisioned this, but only having owned dogs with different coats, I did not know.
I am going to take off the electric fence collar every night and switch him to leather in case I forget it on, but plan to take that one off, too. Seems like those would hold less moisture since they are thinner and not nylon.
I do like to have one on so I can grab him if I ever need to, but I really don't need it. Today, I have just been touching his head and he will follow me, lol.

Goodness, you did not know! It will heal just fine. We all have to learn.
I found that the following works for mine:
trim back lack fur as much as possible around the hot spot so the edges are clean - shave if necessary.
clean with Betadyne solution
spray with vetricyn spray
clean it twice a day or so.
if it looks bad, I take him to the vet.
