    Red, itchy ear

We've just noticed that Charlie's right ear is very red on the inside and he has been scratching it quite a bit today. Any ideas on what that could be?

Sounds like an ear infection to me. Does it smell? Probably yeast based. You can try some home remedies, but they don't work for my 2. I always end up taking them in.

Sounds like an ear infection. Time to see the vet.

Possibly an infection, I'd check with the vet.

I usually do a good rinse with witch hazel first and see if it clears in a day or so. If not, definitely the vet.

Just back from the vet. Yeast infection in both ears. Poor guy. He's on drops for 10 days and then he will be rechecked. In future, I will have to make sure that I dry his ears after he gets wet.

    Poor boy!

Don't just dry them - clean them. Since I have started cleaning Cookie's ears after swimming, we haven't had an infection. Knock on wood, it's been four years now!

Yes, when I go back for the re-check the vet is going to give me a special liquid to clean them with.

Agree 100%. Ever since we started cleaning Lola's ears with Virbac Epi-otic ear solution every time she swims, we haven't had one problem.
