Why put Winston under anesthesia with it's inherent risks when it isn't necessary? If it is a lipoma, it could be taken off combined with another needed procedure, i.e. teeth cleaning.

Isn't it possible you could get better information from a biopsy than a needle aspirate? Couldn't it potentially become cancerous?

an aspirate will extract cells which can be assessed as normal or abnormal. The only reason an aspirate wouldn't 'work' is if there wasn't enough to aspirate. If it is a fatty tumor standard procedure is to leave them unless they interfere with movement or can be irritated due to their location. I've never had a vet tell me they could become cancerous and the rule of thumb as in people docs is 'first do no harm' ie why cut or anesthetize a healthy dog.

Let et us know how the vet appt goes.

i am completely lump phobic and 12 yr old jack now has a lipoma, in the exact spot. it was aspirated, at least once, and measured each time we go to the vet or i think it looks different. i too, was not ever told that a lipoma can turn into a cancer.

and if you are lucky enough to have a lab reach old age, chances are they will have more than one lipoma, in more than one area. labs are ones that tend to grow them . and they can also grow back in the same spot it's removed from. so , in essence, you'd be operating on the animal every year. to no avail.

Lumps are so scary! Usually they are nothing and I think it can wait to be diagnosed until you can get an appt. with your own vet. Good luck.

Weird. Is the forum eating posts? It looks like several from this thread are missing.

Yeah, I think others have noticed missing posts. I have.

Sorry about the squishy lump. I hope it's nothing.

“Because of the dog's joyfulness, our own is increased. It is no small gift. It is not the least reason why we should honor as well as love the dog of our own life, and the dog down the street, and all the dogs not yet born. What would the world be like without music or rivers or the green and tender grass? What would this world be like without dogs?”

Thanks. Winston will be fine. The vet said it was just a lipoma. I had written a post going into more detail, but that was the gist.
