Asking for thoughts - Creek ate a shoelace, 12" long.......

with a fluff ball attached at either end. Fluff balls were 1/2" diameter. Object were little fluff balls off from a new set of slippers, she ripped it off my foot and down the hatch quicker then snot. So I know she didn't even chew them.

Called our normal vet practice (but was not our normal vet himself) 5 min after it occurred, who said to not induce vomiting cause they were concerned about her choking if it were to come back up with a fluff ball attached at either end - my guess is they were concerned with the shoelace getting wrapped around something on the way up.

Was told to feed her tons of pumpkin & fiber and that they've seen many of these similar situations pass through, as long as the dog is fed super high fiber and walked a lot, to keep things moving along.

So, I fed her 3 pieces of bread; but just wasn't comfortable with the answer I was given.

So I called another clinic we've used who's closer to us; had to wait half hour for them to return call, just to wait another half hour before actual vet called....they stated to definitely go ahead and induce vomiting with peroxide, and if it was something that went down smooth, it should come up fairly easy.

Gave her the 4 tablespoons of peroxide that I was told too; she did vomit, but only the bread that she'd eaten an hour before. Called vet back who stated that it might have already been too late to get her to vomit it up....at which point, he stated the same thing, 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin at every meal to keep things moving and in a hurry.

So, as soon as I got off the phone with him, I gave her 1/2 cup of pumpkin.

She ate the object 12hrs ago now, and has had 2 meals since with 1/2 cup of pumpkin at each meal. She is acting completely normal, no bloating, no nothing, but I'm terrified.

That is a long shoelace; I'm not too concerned with the fluff balls, vet said that was the least of her concern as well. She did say that overloading the system with high fiber can help keep things smooth for easier passing.

What a way to enjoy Thanksgiving, that's for sure. She did poop 4hrs ago, a completely normal stool, no straining, etc but the object was not in that stool - so I know it's still in there.

We were advised not to feed any dry food, but rather canned or her normal, homecooked meals - we were told the dry food takes longer to get out of the system which can delay the passing of a foreign object.

Definitely worried.....as of this morning, nearly 24hrs later, Creek is still doing really good. Had 3 normal stools since yesterday, still eating, being playful - but no fluff balls or string as of yet

Called vet clinic again this morning, clinic we've used for a few years, but our vet is actually off for the next 2wks.

She stated there is not much that can be done except wait and see, and that she has seen numerous cases turn out just fine. Her opinion there was no point in x-raying because it probably won't be seen on the x-ray, and she totally refuses to open her up as long as her vital systems all look good.

I agree with her, don't care to open up a dog that could otherwise pass something - but this is scary crap.

I've been REALLY good and careful with Creek, she is known for scarfing things, but she's always given them up when asked too. And it wasn't like she was left alone; she grabbed the strings right off my slipper as I was walking.

Went through it with Anthony. It sat with him a few days and then he had some activity with running and jumping around and it must have started to move. He vomited several times and we took him in, they xrayed him and kept him with an iv. Lots of fluids seemed to help and he passed it. The waiting is the pain in the neck.
