    Puppy diarrhea only at night

Hi everyone, I have a 12 week old lab, beatifull and sweet as can be, we adopted him at 8 weeks. The oddest thing is happening, the last couple of nights he has diarrhea but only at night. He wakes me up every 2 hours to go out and his poop is like chocolate pudding. During the day he is fine, his poop is normal, and he poops 2 or 3 times a day. We have had him for about four weeks and at week 3 he started sleeping thru the night, he would wake me up one time to go pee.

Has anyone experience this issue before. His diet has not changed, he is beeing crate trained, sleeps in his crate right next to our bed at night. He loves his crate, I keep the crate in the kitchen during the day wih the door open, he goes in his crate whenever he needs a break from my 2 girls .

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello and welcome!

I don't think this is normal...and I would not take any chances with a puppy.

I would take him in for a Vet visit as soon as you can.

What are you feeding and how much?

Is it possible he is being over fed? Getting food from your kids? Too many treats?

Is there something different about the night-time routine; i.e. when we were kids @ G-ma's house, we ALWAYS fed the dogs the stuff we didn't want to eat :-D Good for us - our plates would be clean - bad for the dogs.

Could your girls be feeding the pup?

As above, my guess is something different mid-day/night. More food? Different food?

If it were watery diarrhea, it could also be something upsetting his digestion....fear or some such. But pudding indicates to me something being ingested.

I'd take a sample of the poo to the vet and have them check it. My guess it has something to with how much he is being fed in the evening. You didn't mention how often/amount you are feeding, which could also cause this type of issue.
