I second ignoring the vet tec. I think your dog looks great!!! I keep Gauge on the lean side he's around 78lbs I get comments all the time how thin he is. You can't see his ribs but can easily feel him. I learned to just ignore it.

Listen to the Vet not the Vet Tech, your boy is fine and certainly does not need to lose any weight. By the way what is a Vet Tech? are they like Vet Nurses - different terminology in our country.

I currently have my two Lab boys on diets, one because he has a ruptured CCL and is scheduled for TPLO surgery next week and the other one is a couple of kg heavier than I am comfortable with after his weigh-in at Vet last week for his 3 yearly Titre Test and full physical and CBC. The vet was actually OK with his weight, but said it wouldn't hurt him to lose a couple of kg as I explained I had already starting reducing his food a couple of weeks ago and was sure he would have been heavier had I not started reducing his food, as his activity levels had decreased over the last few weeks due to the oppressive humidity and heat we have been suffering from and he has been reduced to one outing a day instead of two and no swimming due to an ear infection as well.

Yes a Vet Tech would be similar to a Vet Nurse I would think.

Good luck to your pup with the TPLO surgery. Hope all goes as planned and his recovery in uneventful.

Cooper looks fine to me. I find there is a range of weights that work for any dog and to my mind Cooper wouldn't be fat with a few extra pounds but he shouldn't drop much, then he'd be skinny. I think. Photos can be deceiving.
