Thanks for the update...glad to hear it's not anything worse...good thoughts that it'll resolve and not require surgery.

It is a tricky surgery because there are many facial nerves and blood vessels in the way. A specialist (surgeon) would do it. I have googled the heck out of this but can't find many testimonials or info on it. What I have found suggests that this problem nearly always ends with surgery. Im sad about that, but it could be worse.
I just answered your post in my thread on mucocele- we might have been writing from the same brain! Anyway, I hope Cooper doesn't require surgery. So far, Chase is doing fine and the lump hasn't been getting any larger.

Not great but much better than some of the other things it could be.

    Sending prayers and mojo.

Wanted to post an update on Cooper in case anyone else has this problem and is searching the board for answers. Coopers mucocle has disappeared in its own! It's been gone for a month or so and I'm hoping it's gone for good! He had it for 6-7 months...and it was the size on an orange at one point. From the research I've done on them, it seems that surgery is almost always the only solution. They rarely resolve themselves. I guess the gland healed and the saliva was reabsorbed? I'll ask the vet next time I see him. Regardless, Happy news. Cooper is a lucky dog!

Thanks for the update! Chase had surgery to place a drain and was given antibiotics. The swelling went down and he continues to do well. We saw the vet who first saw him recently and she was surprised to see that it appeared to resolve also. Had it gotten to the size of an orange as Cooper's did, I'm sure we'd have been consulting a surgeon because nothing I read indicated they would resolve on their own either. I'm glad to know Cooper is doing well!

    Thanks for the update!

Sharing information is important to all of us, learning how to better help our dogs.

I'm so happy that the mucocele resolved by itself.

That's such great news! I actually recently had a mucocele just like Cooper! Though it never reach anywhere near the size of his. Mine also reabsorbed itself.
